OzzieMandias
We're not going to get it, are we?
mrmojorisin75
what's happened now like?
Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Panorama 'exposé' looks to have backfired on us. Plus old affiliations are coming to the service of other potential hosts with other committee members voting for their historical countries (South America linking with Spain/Portugal for example). Old World Politics hates Great Britain.
NG32
Cut their aid off.
mrmojorisin75
just seen the spain/portugal story pretty much fucks things then in all probability great, still was thinking of moving to spain by then so every cloud
Village Idiot
The SA votes were already sewn up when we supported CONMEBOL in the Rio bid. Dunno why it is news all of a sudden. Our press aren't even reporting it.
ponsaelius
It's bollocks how it's all based on buttering up FIFA and gaining political votes rather than actually being prepared to host a World Cup.
Guest ObiChrisKenobi
It's bollocks how it's all based on buttering up FIFA and gaining political votes rather than actually being prepared to host a World Cup. Village Idiot
It sucks, but that's the good part of having a corrupt kleptocrat as head of the Spanish FA
Dave
Is it just me who honestly doesn't care who gets it? I'm as likely to go to a game over here as I am in Zaire.
Guest ObiChrisKenobi
I'd be less fussed if we lost it due to lack of merit/ability/planning rather than some potential backroom politics going on. Though I'd love to see some International football at SJP again.
Village Idiot
Honestly though, I don't think there's much between England and Spain's bids regarding infrastructure, stadia, etc...
mrmojorisin75
at the end of the day we invented the modern game and the following have all seen it in their country more than once, and therefore more than us: germany (inc. west) brazil (inc next one) france italy mexico (twice in 16 years) it's bollocks, time to send it to england thanks
wormy
This is why I've not been the slightest bit excited for potential World Cup matches in England. Kind of expected boardroom politics to get in the way and screw us of it.
madras
Honestly though, I don't think there's much between England and Spain's bids regarding infrastructure, stadia, etc... there isn't. though spain did host it as recent as 1982.
Village Idiot
That's 36 years when 2018 comes, hardly yesterday. Mind, I think it's getting to the point where England should host one, but I obviously want this one in Spain
Stifler
Aye, looks like it's messed up for us now. I'm assuming Europien members can't vote for 2018 then. So that means we are relying on North America, Asia, and Oceania.
madras
i'd also like to see the press go after the corruption in fifa regardless of the outcome of the vote.
Stifler
How does the voting system work? I thought every country has a vote.
Neil
Exhaustive ballot system. Rounds of voting and the one with the fewest will be eliminated, and repeat.
Village Idiot
And it's voted by the FIFA Executive committe that has 24 members from different federations, not by every member nation.
Spider Jerusalem
. Honestly though, I don't think there's much between England and Spain's bids regarding infrastructure, stadia, etc... Well, England are trying to get it by themselves and not hold it in partnership with Wales or Scotland. That's 36 years when 2018 comes, hardly yesterday. Mind, I think it's getting to the point where England should host one, but I obviously want this one in Spain 52 Years since we've held one is a bit worse than that. It's easy to be glib when you are in the driving seat and the most likeley to get it, but I honestly don't think that I'll see a World Cup held in this country in my lifetime and that's pretty fucking depressing. Village Idiot
I'm not that sure we'll get it, for some reason I keep dreading it's gonna be Russia. Heck, you still have CONCACAF's votes sewn up, and it's almost as strong as CONMEBOL inside the committee. I will, however, tell my Portuguese friends that they are the Wales of Spain. Spider Jerusalem
I will, however, tell my Portuguese friends that they are the Wales of Spain. Don't be that cruel to them. To be honest, if England don't get it then the best option for us as a whole has to be Spain / Portugal. I think most football fans would be hoping for any one but Russia. Village Idiot
That's my take too. I mean, I want it to be over here but I won't cry foul if you get it. But I really don't want it to go to Russia.
