Managers acquire and lose reputations too easily. Pardew has had his previous successes, so it's difficult for us to have a clear idea of his ability.

Trouble is, if he's only got this job because he's a mate of Llambias and Ashley, with Hughton pushed aside in an unjust way, then it won't matter what ability he tries to bring to the job. He'll be a dead duck.

Not being funny, but list them for me please.

Won the Champ with Reading. Got 3 more points than CH too.

All while wearing a Steve Coppell fancy dress costume?

 ah shit aye.

With Kinnear it was always a short-term appointment and there was always the possibility that he might die at any moment

To be fair, Pardew's always only a male relative with a shotgun license away from that on any given day.

The one positive thing about Ashley's time at the club, is that they've managed to keep certain deals away from the media, I just hope we get a pleasant surprise at the end of this, and it isn't Pardew

I'm not counting on it though

on 11 December 2006, following a 4–0 defeat away at Bolton Wanderers the previous weekend, it was announced that Pardew had been sacked by West Ham. The club statement read "The chairman Mr Eggert Magnússon and the board have been concerned by the performances of recent weeks and feel that it is the right time to make a change in the best interests of the club."

However, Charlton's form very quickly deteriorated and they were near the foot of the table and after 8 games without a win and a 5-2 home defeat to Sheffield United on 22 November 2008, Pardew parted company with Charlton by mutual consent.

The following is a list of controversies Pardew has been involved in:

In December 2005, Pardew stated a public interest in Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson, without informing Palace manager Iain Dowie.

In February 2007, shortly before Pardew's new club Charlton faced West Ham, The Sun published a report documenting a video of one of Pardew's media training sessions he took whilst manager at West Ham. In the video, Pardew jokingly made several disparaging comments about West Ham's fans.

In March 2009, on Match of the Day 2 Pardew stated that Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien "absolutely rapes" Man City player Ched Evans during a midfield tussle for the ball, in the sense that he bested him physically.  The BBC said there will be no on-air apology, despite 35 viewer complaints, insisting it had been misheard as "rakes", and expressing no certainty that Pardew would appear, or not appear on the show again.

Two promotions, three play-off places, an FA Cup Final, the Football League Trophy. Not Mourinho-esque, but he has clearly shown some ability.

My point is that whatever his level of ability, the circumstances of him getting the job will be a big handicap to him in performing the job successfully.

Pardew is not going to be the manager ffs, it's all based on bets and the media making up stories based on these and the odd's.  It's a pile of bollocks.

EDIT:  In case you didn't realise it's the bookies who have done this, they always do it, think of a viable yet improbable manager, drops odd's people bet and the Media fall for it.

TBF to Pardew as far as we know he hasn't actually done anything wrong he is just a deeply unpopular choice and one that was not needed in the first place. He has to start well (if appointed) and I deeply hope he does otherwise the crowd will be on his back rightfully/wrongfully straight away. If it comes out that he has been lined up previous to CH getting the boot however the man is a grade A prick.

On the 30th of August 2010, Southampton football club Chairman Nicola Cortese, sacked Alan Pardew. Pardew was without doubt our best manager since Gordon Strachan and the best the club could of had while playing at this level... Who will replace him.? Who ever it is wont have long to prove themselves before they are shown the door. I for one hope Pardew comes out on top, go on Alan,go get the Villa job ..lol... You will be miss at the club, Thanks.

Pardew's managerial career, as I am mightily bored:

Reading

1999/2000: Finishes 10th in League One

2000/2001: League One playoff final defeat

2001/2002: Automatic promotion to the Championship

2002/2003: Championship playoffs defeat - leaves for:

West Ham

2003/2004: Championship playoff final defeat

2004/2005: Championship playoff final victory

2005/2006: Finishes 9th in Premier League, FA Cup final defeat

2006/2007: Worst run of defeats for West Ham in over 70 years including League Cup defeat to Chesterfield - sacked in December, turns up at:

Charlton

2006/2007: Takes over in December, relegated from the Premier League

2007/2008: Finishes 11th in the Championship

2008/2009: Near the foot of the table and without a win in eight - sacked in November, turns up at:

Southampton

2009/2010: Narrowly misses out on League One playoff spots despite 10pt deduction, wins Football League Trophy - sacked

Loads better than Hughton, that.

Solid Championship experience. Right man for the job?  :kinnear:

This is potentially the worst thing that has happened to the club since I started supporting us.

... you bastard.
