Is Mike Ashley the worst person ever to have been associated with NUFC?

Recommended Posts

If we go out and show real ambition this summer and make a couple of big splashes in the transfer market then I'll happily change my tune, but I personally don't expect it to happen.

feel the same - i wonder could ashley be aiming to get through this summer spending a tiny amount on fees from the 35m carroll money?  it doesn't seem to make any logical sense that he would, surely your average fan will be outraged at that proposition?

as semtex said if nothing else happens between now and the end of the window we'll have done OK tbh, but not in the context of that 35m, when placed in that context it'd have been a fucking terrible window

It also brings to mind other unorthodox deals Mr Ashley has put together, including the acquisition of Lillywhites in 2002. Reports at the time detailed how an offer was tabled at lunchtime and completed the same day.

Then in 2004, Mr Ashley bought Dunlop Slazenger without having audited accounts for the group or its subsidiaries.

Quite a habit he has there.

Interesting that he seems to make the same mistakes again and again.

Was the Lilywhites purchase a mistake, or the Dunlop one? Genuine question, I don't have a clue.

He's very rich for a man who keeps making such big errors.

He made the vast majority of his fortune on the back of going public with Sports Direct which by that time included Dunlop, Slazenger, Lillywhites and others. It's just that if you consider he seems to repeatedly take such gambles, it's a bit strange that he has his mates moan so much on his behalf when he eventually gets stung. Unfortunately for us as fans we needed someone so stupidly reckless to bail us out at that time. I wish he was as willing to gamble on this club being successful.

Ah totally, he's got nobody to blame but himself about buying us without due diligence.

I don't know the details of all these deals, but it wouldn't surprise me if moving quickly and recklessly like he does has got him some bargains in the past. He is a gambler like, obviously, as we found out to our cost in the relegation season.

The gamble that he took, which he isn't really being given credit for, is Ben Afra, with a broken leg, signed on a 5 year contract after 3 games on loan.

It seems to me that other talented players have responded to that.

Do you really believe it was for any reason other than his stock couldn't get any lower, therefore guaranteeing a profit should he come back anything like as good?

The good words he is putting in for the club are simply an added bonus.

If the Carroll money gets spent on a few quality players it's fair to say that will win everyone over.

This summer is his chance to make amends with the fans, but if the money isn't invested after promises that it will be then that's it, there's no going back, and the few remaining that have faith will see he's nowt but a fat fucking wanker who doesn't care about NUFC one bit.

I think it's already clear that that will not be the case. I can't remember anyone disputing that this summer would be the ultimate test of his ambition for the club, and yet we're already seeing the excuses being rolled out in preparation. Even though there's ages to go yet, as we are all reminded daily.

No. You haven't sussed the guy out at all. Ben Arfa is an exciting player and he couldn't resist taking the chance any more than you or I would.

Not only that, but we've had 5 months to look at strikers after the January window, and it seems fairly obvious that we don't have a fucking clue who to bid for.

If we'd been a bit smarter and taken advantage of the time we had, then we'd probably have a striker in, or at least a few more capable strikers in our sights by now instead of dishing out the excuses we all know and hate. Shane long is decent, and I'll admit I know nothing about this Erdinc bloke so that one could have been alright if it had came off, but I'd like to think we can aim at least a little bit higher than Shane Long with 30-odd million to spend.

I agree. But the some of the signings under MA has come out of the blue, with Marveaux for me being the latest. Im hoping for some surprises. Hopefully atleast a striker before the USA tour.

Massive twats though they were with Keegan, utter liars may be a little strong when you look at the findings.

/And of course I'd wager if you stick every single bunch in charge stretching back in front of a tribunal, similar shit could be stuck on them.
