There's a lot of players I am losing respect for quickly.  You can add Rob Lee to that list now.

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/sport-opinion/newcastle-united-been-middle-road-8831190 What Lees saying isnt all that far away from whats being said on here to be fair. Medoicre club no ambition to be anything else, no decent manager will want to come here with the set up as it is.

Carver has had some bad luck so far, infinitely better than Pardew, I'm glad we have a passionate Geordie in-charge for once, he'll turn it around, I'm sure of it!

He understands our fans, knows what we expect and want. He was brave enough to play 2 upfront as well.

We could do much worse. I'd rather have Carver, I'm sure he'll improve this club, His passion for the club alone will attract talent, imo, as they'll see what it means to us fans.

I've developed some sort of almost irrational hatred for Bob Moncur. Anyway, wrote this on his latest shite: http://www.themag.co.uk/2015/03/ask-bobby-moncur/

Mark Douglas responded to some of it here; at least he's on board with the fact that Carver would only confirm the perception that they're not even trying.

"I’d rather JC was in charge than a foreign manager I’ve never heard of" is beyond stupid though. Rob Lee hasn't heard of Remi Garde who's won throphies with Arsenal and managed Lyon in the Champions League and therefore would prefer John "Toronto" Carver in charge.

Any particular reason not to have JC though? He did well against Man United, won against Hull, and is generally getting his ideas across. He doesn't hate the fans like Pardew does, is passionate, and loves the club. He's finally giving players like Colback who give it all on the pitch, running and tackling, a chance. He hasn't been given time, I'd rather see Carver in, as he knows what the fans want!

Always get this standard reply on themag too

Is Bobby Moncur, the man who won us our last major trophy, a Mackem too?

This appointment is such a big moment for the club, even the most rabid pro-Ashley fan I know (there are some still out there) admitted that if they appoint Carver then he's done.

Problem is it's never been easier to stay in the league - the 3 promoted teams look like going straight back down this year, and that's going to become the norm as the cash gap gets bigger each year, so even if we do go with Carver actual relegation is unlikely, and just staying in the prem is all Ashley really cares about - he would rather gamble on the cheap appointment and know he can throw some cash at it in January if we do get into trouble.

I want a good run in the cups and JC gave me a team of reserves and told them not to play. I'm passionate and love the club but I would have the balls to stand up to Ashley.

Any bloke that say's he would be perfectly happy to work under the Ashley way of running a football club should be kept as far away from that club as possible.

I agree about Ashley. I remember the day he renamed St James Park. That was the day I knew this man was a cancer. It was the beginning of the club forgetting its proud history, and going for money, and the results have reflected that.

On the other hand, any one who wants to help change the club needs to explain what it means to Ashley. And I don't see a foreign big shot or a cockney c*** like Pardew doing that. It'll have to be a Geordie.

I don't believe Ashley will ever change, but perhaps the passion of Carver might help the players understand what it means, and keep the club together. Until Ashley leaves, that is......

And I believe Carver will go for cup runs. This time around, I believe he underestimated the impact dropping a couple of players may have, seeing how shit Leicester had been. But he'll learn from this, I hope

However, if he doesn't manage to get the Derby, against this weak Sunderland side, without Johnson too, and it's his tactics at fault, he should be sacked

Rob Lee would rather have JC in charge than a European manager he's never heard of. Another club legend embarrassing himself with comments regarding anything Newcastle related.

Rob Lee is a total UKIPer like.

Plenty of predictably tragic responses to your article. Consistently staggers me how some continue to defend the indefensible, or simply miss the point/don't see the bigger picture.

I'm scaling back my interest massively when Carver gets it. I'll really try not to get involved next season. Seems a good time to have a clean break.

Aye because he's done so well in conveying that passion in the years he's been here so far. He's just another Pardewesque lapdog with a Geordie accent.

I'd rather have a progressive, hungry, foreign manager than a caveman.

Like Ashley is ever going to listen to Carver, you have to look at Carver as if he is just a branch manager of SportsDirect.  Do as you are told, dont rock the boat, keep things ticking over and make sure profits are kept high.

The idea of Carver actually approaching Ashley about football matters is hilarious.

He wouldn't get past Charnely.

If KK, Shearer, Hughton, the actual Newcastle fans, local media and to and even lower point Kinnear or Pardew couldn't convince Ashley then no one will.

Carver is a lick spittle.

The thing is though, to state the blindingly obvious, Newcastle is not London.  There is a limited number of "events" to go to locally.  Watching Premier League football in a large stadium remains a big draw.  For example businesses who wish to entertain in Newcastle, where else do you take clients for a day out?

Gosforth Park has very little quality racing.  The Northumberland Plate is the biggest event the course has, but it is a handicap and not a Group race of any sort.  People enjoy the day out but it is not high quality action.

Kingston Park is periodically half empty, and does attract a different sort of supporter, but it does not feel like a big event in the same way a 50,000 full stadium does.

Whitley Warriors at the ice rink?  Newcastle Eagles at Northumbria Uni?  The dogs at Brough Park?

Eddie Hearn is brining a (terrible) boxing card to Newcastle in April which will be live on Sky, headlined by a commonwealth title fight.  We rarely get decent boxing in Newcastle.

Obviously there are bands and stuff at the various venues, from your Nick Minaj at the arena to Wu Tang Clan at the acadedemy.  Personally it is rare that an act comes to Newcastle that I want to see.

The bottom line is if you live in Newcastle, and have cash to splurge on a day out with the lads, where do you go?  NUFC remains the go to option for many, and will continue to do so.

This is nonsense iyam. Outside of sports there are endless different events that I see listed that I'd go to in a heartbeat. Most of them revolve around eating/drinking, but that's just fine with me.

 apparently said in his presser that the pressure is on Everton, with none on us and that we "have to go there and express ourselves."

5-0 home win, then.

He's probably right considering the state of our club.  We've achieved all of our aims for the season, the only 'pressure' each year is to avoid relegation.
