Newcastle United 1 - 1 Tottenham - 22/01/11 - post match reaction from p22

Harper - 7  Had some good saves, but he seriously needs to work on kicking the ball.

Simpson - 7 Was good for most of the game, but doesnt have the pace against ppl like Lennon.

Colo - 9 -  Very good both defending and attacking. Took his goal like a striker would. Happy B-day Colo

Williamson - 8 - Was solid today.

Enrique - 7.5 - Did very good against Lennon, wasnt as good offensive as he use to be

Barton - 7 - Had a good game, but in another team he would have been taken off around 70 min. Didnt have any juice left in his legs.

Nolan - 6 - did make some good stops and defensive work, missed his offensive runs. Looked tired.

Guthrie - 6.5 - Had a few good crosses. Tried his best, needs to work on his tactics and get some more muscles. To bad if he is injured for the next game.

Gutierrez - 8 - Very good game of Jonas. Still needs to work on his crossing when he is running down the flanks.

Best - 6 - I give him a 6 because of his shot in the woodwork. He looks like a very slow player, and isnt to good to get in good positions either.

Ameobi - 6.5 - Should have had a goal or three today.

Loven - 5 - He looks afraid of getting to near the opposite players. He is always jumping away from 70/30 duels.

Ranger - 7 - Should have been intorduced much earlier. He has the pace to play next to Carroll.

Thompson blames Simpson.

Think between him and on here we've covered half the team to be at fault.

Any more takers?

Can't fault the team today, they put in a hard 90min shift (Shola aside). Just lacked the lungs and legs at the end, it was always going to happen once we missed those chances before hand. Its football law. Thought Pardew deserves some credit for his tactical changes today. 4-4-2 wasn't working, too much space for Modric, so he put Barton in the middle and Best on the right to match up against Spurs.

Tottenham were s****. Utter s****. Take Modric out of that team, and they wouldn't have moved the ball at all.

On another day it should have been 4-2 to the Toon but we missed our chances, and Defoe was Defoe and kept blindly shooting every chance he got.

Sadly the ref was shocking.

I had never realised that VDV was such a cheating little s*** before this. As soon as anyone was near him he was on the floor looking up at Halsey. Twice he dived and handled the ball assuming he was going to get a free kick.

Halsey waved play on, and even after telling VDV to watch his mouth, continued to let VDV moan and complain throughout the game. Lost a bit of admiration for him after today, though its quickly been gained by Modric.

Pineer had a shocker of a debut. Wasted the ball, sliced shots and went off injured.

Rubbish. Showed far more quality on the ball than us. Pinaar wasn't bad either, showed some class in possesion.

I though the ref was quite good, bar the decision of how much time to add on.

...and yet again - another point towards safety. O0

Two dropped points closer to relegation!

I dont think we will have problems with that, on the outside and coming into the game its a great result. As I said earlier, highlights the need for new players to freshen up the team, we did well for a slow side to cope with the pace of spurs. Really need a couple of quick players (not headless chickens) to give us the extra yard on the break. Like I said we do well for what we have, which is a credit to the players and staff, more committed than we have been in years.

thats 4 points dropped which may cost us in the end, takes me back to a previous promotion season where we kept dropping ourselves in it during the last 5 mins.

So long as we aren't conceding last minute goals to lose, we'll be ok.

It often happens for a team to have things like this happen in succession.

It's an irritation but ultimately, we can take comfort in that in the 2 games in which it's happened, we played well (from what you lads and lasses say) and were very, very close to winning. We'll get our reward in the end.

Right-o dipshit - you're the first person I'm going to use the ignore feature on. Every week you come on here after a game and talk utter shite.

My liverpool supporting mate was watching the game and i got updates from him whilst at work. He said 1-1 was a fair result and Halsey favoured you guys (my mate really dislikes spurs btw). I'll watch when i get home on football first.

I talked to some people who work at the club, Shola hasn't been in training this week. He went down to London with Haris Vuckic and Raylor to have their injuries assessed / treated by some specialists. Going of that info I don't think Shola should have started never mind played 85 mins or whatever it was.

Gutted by the late goal again.  :weep:

TBF to Shola, he has put himself on the line for the cause on more than one occasion. He deserves respect for that.

It's pretty much Tiote's fault isn't it, for getting suspended and making us play Perch?

Pretty sure Emre slipped in that bit of the park a few years ago too, and I don't think it's ever held up quite the same since.  Emre.  What a cunt.

So yeah.  Perch, Barton, Williamson, Tiote, Simpson, Ranger and Emre basically.

Your players were throwing themselves to the ground all the time and he saw through it.

Probably about right. Your lot couldn't wait to hit the deck at every oppertunity though.

It did look like Halsey was being extremely biased against Lennon and VdV, but the former should have been yellow'd for blatant diving at least once.

Can't fault his devotion to this club at all but he shouldn't be playing days after undergoing treatment for an injury.

He also said Pienaar was "ok" btw.

Perhaps I was expecting more from him, but he broke down several of Tottenham's own moves in the first half.

I agree he should've given VDV a yellow, or worse as he kept doing it. But he didn't "fall" for every dived, he waved him up and let play continue, which was a good thing, no?
