Hudson
Anyone know how much Ashley has taken out of the club since taking over? It's only a million but has generated over 44.5m on players sales which has been used to keep the club ticking over.

Hudson
What's the point in having a £35 mill plus transfer kitty if you're not willing to pay the going rate in wages? We won't get 35million it will be paid in instalments. We may see 10-15million for the next window.

Hudson
That's net profit on player sales not what ashley has taken from the club as payment for the loan. The repayment to the loan is on the books as 1million
Guest Roger Kint
What's the point in having a £35 mill plus transfer kitty if you're not willing to pay the going rate in wages? The going rate? Our wage bill was bigger than Spurs' in 2008(actually 5th highest in the league) and look where that got us.......... You talk as though we will be looking to compete with the City's of the league for top players, be very surprised if we get many players in the next few seasons for £10m+ so cant see why wages will matter too much, after all HBA wont be cheap. AyeDubbleYoo
There's no such thing as the going rate now, transfer spending and player wages have gone mental. It's all about what a club is prepared to splash and what a player thinks he can squeeze out of them.

I thought there were rules about this sort of shite.
Guest dogbeak
I am stuck in who i should believe. just extrapolate from a bundle of wildly concieved ideas lacking in substance or verifiability to the point where you are frothing at the mouth (keyboard?) about how people only tangentially involved morally deserve to suffer severe physical trauma and/or sudden death. it at least relieves some of the tension, and you will be camouflaged amongst the screeching clowns of the internet. geordiemonster
I don't believe a word of it. I fully expect nice soundbites from Pardew about how he expects to get x number of players in, followed by fuck all and a last minute rush where we sign two or three panic buys. Then a sympathetic media outlet will let slip how nice, benevolent Mike Ashley has kept the club afloat out of the goodness of his heart. Its like a roundabout and until that fat fuck and his slimy, cretinous mate fuck off then we are not gonna be able to get off it.

quayside
Anyone know how much Ashley has taken out of the club since taking over? The short answer to that is nothing. He did at one point reduce his loan by £1 million but he stuck a load more money in after that. Going back to the thread I'm not arsed whether he reinvests the whole Carroll booty or not. The most important thing is quality rather than money spunked - if we buy 5 players of the same standard as Tiote and Ben Arfa for £20 million I couldn't give a toss if Ashley uses the rest to reduce his loan tbh. OzzieMandias
Anyone know how much Ashley has taken out of the club since taking over? Depends how you want to calculate it. Mick reckons some paragraph in the last set of accounts indicate that he's maybe taken out about a million. OTOH, he'd put in £111 million up to that point, and there was a note in the accounts to the effect that he was about to bung in a further £25.5 million. My point was obviously that amount spent is not as relevant as quality of player bought. Boumsong for £8m or Williamson for £1m? Luque for £9m or Ben Arfa for £5m? Alan Smith for £6m or Tiote for £3m. That sort of thing. Obvious of course but I can see a lynching party being assembled if £35m isn't spent when in fact it might be possible to make a huge difference with less. Sorry, yeah, I get your point and agree with it. My thought was just moving on from there -- that I'd also consider investment in scouting and youth to be money that was "going into the team". Less big names and big fee players, but overall better.
AyeDubbleYoo
We do have a better squad than in the season just before relegation IMO. It's pretty thin in depth, but I would say it was just about better.

Bar Carrolls departure I think I am the happiest I have been with having faith in players than I have been in years. We have a new breed of heroes then we have Alan Smith. Foluwashola
Would be nice if every time we want to make slight improvements to the squad, we don't have to go through relegation and 4 years of general shitiness. On the spending of the £35m, Pardew possibly believes what he's being told but there's 0-5% chance of us reinvesting this money in the summer.
