Shearer and Sutton

Suarez and Sturridge

Beardsley and Cole

Quinn and Phillips

Shearer and Owen should have been, on paper.

Taking a few liberties there because they're not all 'average' sides, but those partnerships were still at a higher quality than the rest of the team.

Just looked at their results that season, their run-in was insane.

Last 11 games:

P11 W9 D2 L0 F28 A8 Pts29.

Edit:

Their 1st 11 wasn't shabby either!

P11 W8 D3 L0 F25 A11 Pts 27.

They mustn't have fancied the cold winter of 94-95. Had a crap run where they lost 10 and only won 6 out of 18. They were only 12 behind Blackburn in the end, could have won it if they'd not went to shit there.

Why is it so common for players to have played with both AC Milan and Inter and Juve? Ibra, Bonucci, Vieira, Davids, Baggio and a few other probably. Seems to happen a whole lot more than in England, Spain or Germany.

And also why do Brazilian players, or players in Brazil for that matter, often have such bonkers career trajectories? Sometimes staying at a club for like 10 games only to sign for a club and not playing a single game, going on loan in in the 7th tier before going back to one of the biggest teams etc.

Do clubs have to play the premier league theme before the match now? They played about 20 seconds of blaydon races, then about 10 seconds of the premier league tune, then local hero yesterday, sounded ridiculous. Noticed it before a game on motd last night and also before the spurs match.

It's all about them pushing the brand. Think the music is used in the international TV coverage. They've gone in really hard on that in the last two seasons. New logos, that bright colour scheme, dropping the sponsor etc...

But again, no reason for it to replace any team's entrance song. Silly. If anything the weight of the "brand" lies in the history and traditions of the clubs.

The referee is included as part of the pitch isn't he? So if the ball hits him play can't be stopped etc.

What's to stop players playing one twos off the referee?

Also if a player is on the break, and the referee is in the way of the player, can the player push the referee over/out the way?

Yes, the referee is considered part of the field in terms of the ball hitting the referee - no play won't be stopped if the ball it's the referee.

Technically players could try to play a 1-2 off the referee but the referee should not be so close to the ball that he couldn't get out of the way. Most referee consider it a failure on their part of the get hit but the ball and cannot jump/move out of the way.

And any player who intentionally ploughs through a referee instead of going round is likely to be on his way to sitting in the parking lot as soon as the refereee is back on his feet.  You can't push/plough through an opposing player, and you can't do that to a referee either [emoji6]
