Looking at Red Cafe, where the members choose their TOTY from this season, Colo is selected in most teams.

Love him, such a classy footballer and pro. Absolutely delighted over him signing a new long term deal.

He has to be the most technically gifted centre backs I've ever seen play in the premier league. Never rushes the ball from back to front. He leads the team by example as he never gets into altercations and what not like the fool down the road does. I still think he's our best player and most important player. A defender of his quality is something Newcastle hasn't seen since Woodgates half season. It's about time he gets the recognition he deserves and gets another chance at International football. Too good not to.  :)

Colo is the best centerback we've had for a while and if he stays til his contract is up I reckon he'll be not only a legend but a true pillar in the history of the club.

Can you just imagine how long his song will go on for at his testimonial

We need Shola's first.  :harry:

Shola's testimonial would be amazing. Against Sunderland of course, Sammy and Tomi start upfront with Shola on the bench (his hip will have finally exploded by this point). Sunderland 2-1 up until we are awarded a very soft penalty late on. Camera pans to Shola who smiles, gets up off the bench and comes on for Sammy to a standing ovation from the 15,000 present (most of whom are Ameobi descendants). Ba takes the penalty and misses.

Man. He needs to stay here until 2018, 36 years old for a testamonial. Quite sad that I'm looking that far ahead and praying for it to happen.

If Shola is still here in 2018 I will happily go along to his testimonial. Reckon he would get a decent line up along as well - I bet he has a lot of friends in football.

Said it before, but Shola definitely needs a testimonial. Get Bobby's team back and all the proceeds can go to his foundation. Also, they need to have Carl Cort there so him and Shola can wear each others shirts.

FABRICIO COLOCCINI has revealed he would have regretted it for life had he quit Newcastle United in the aftermath of relegation.

Now, with the Magpies dreaming of the Champions League next season, Coloccini admits he has to pinch himself as he captains a team on the brink of Europe just two years after away days at Plymouth and Scunthorpe.

Coloccini opted to stay on Tyneside when the likes of Obafemi Martins, Habib Beye, Damien Duff and Seb Bassong moved on for bigger things.

The defender – who can lead United into fourth place today against Stoke City – told the Chronicle: “People left and I suppose I could have too.

“I was thinking ‘I have a black star on my career CV’ because we were going down.

“But I felt responsibility and wanted to turn it around. I wanted to fix the damage and repair things.”

And Coloccini has certainly done that with some aplomb, with United in with a shout of joining Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Real Madrid on Europe’s top table next term.

When asked if he would have regretted leaving, he said: “Yes, but I wanted to stay. I was happy here.

“Now it would be our dream to get in the Champions League.

“But we’ll soon wake up if we don’t focus on the last five games.”

Nevertheless, a win against Stoke would all but confirm a place in the Europa League this weekend if Everton and Liverpool don’t win against Manchester United and West Brom respectively.

Coloccini said: “We’re happy because we are near to confirmation we’ll be in the Europa League.

“It’s all good news at Newcastle. The fans can be happy going into the final five games.”

Coloccini also feels that those who wrote the Magpies off last summer have been proved wrong – although, he did accept that survival was a primary aim last July when he was appointed captain, an aim that was passed in style some time ago.

The Argentina international said: “At the start of the season we started to think about getting 45 points first.

“The first aim was to be in the Premier League next season. But we did well throughout the season. We’ve kept our feet on the floor. That is the reason why we are fighting for a European position.”
