Liverpool don't want Toon skipper Coloccini

Oct 30 2011 by Mark Douglas, Sunday Sun

NEWCASTLE skipper Fabricio Coloccini is NOT a Liverpool target, the Sunday Sun understands.

Reports in midweek newspapers that the Reds were looking at the Argentina defender were sparked by the presence of a Liverpool scout at St James’ Park for the defeat of Wigan.

And while Coloccini’s excellent form has been noted at Anfield – it could hardly have passed any diligent scouting team by – he is not a player that Kenny Dalglish wants.

Coloccini currently earns an estimated £4.2million a year – more than any Liverpool defender – and at 29 does not fit in with the long-term planning blueprint of the Anfield club.

No doubt that should soothe the fears of Newcastle fans concerned about Coloccini’s future.

Newcastle have offered him a contract and while the initial indications were that it could be concluded quickly, the two parties are still trying to thrash out a new deal.

The defender is happy at St James’ Park and with relations between dressing room and boardroom having improved of late, there is a determination to strike a deal for a key player.

Phew......

Isn't he in contract negotiations? The speculation is probably more about that than us being interested. Doesn't harm his agent to have options up his sleeve.

More worried about Chelsea trying to upgrade their ShitColo with the real McCoy-locinni, than Liverpool.

Luiz is on the verge of being a great player.

Still only 24, so I guess he still has plenty of time on his side to develop.

All he has to do is learn how to defend and he'll be quality.

Undoubtedly lacking in the defensive nous that is almost exclusively gained through experience. Great talent though. Chelsea need instant success though, and they may not be able to afford to have a developing first-team centre-back as a starter. Need to get rid of deadwood like Drogba and Terry over the next couple of seasons too. Really holding them back.

I said when he arrived that he'd encounter exactly the same problems Colo did in his first year. He's naturally a very good defender.

Chelsea have won all but 1 of the PL games Drogba has been involved in this season. You just have an agenda against him.

It's mainly Luiz's decision making that needs to improve. Far too often he'll dive into tackles when he doesn't need to, which is the biggest fault in his game really. Given time, he's got the potential to be a top class defender.
