JH
Newcastle director attacked and Barton confronted during pitch invasion as violence mars pre-season friendly By COLIN YOUNG http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/07/15/article-2015303-0D081CDB00000578-691_634x524.jpg Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was forced to plea for calm among more than 6,000 visiting supporters after a pitch invasion almost forced the abandonment of their opening pre-season friendly at Darlington. More than 500 fans ran on to the pitch at The Darlington Arena to celebrate Sammy Ameobi's goal, Newcastle's second of the night in a 2-0 victory. After captain for the night Joey Barton had been surrounded by fans from both teams and helped clear the pitch, a second invasion and small scuffle broke out, forcing Quakers boss Mark Cooper to remove his players. Police eventually arrived to quell the unrest before Pardew walked across the pitch to appeal for calm. Following a final warning on the PA system, the match resumed. Barton, who opened the scoring after two minutes, was quickly substituted by Pardew. He was booed by home fans and given an ovation by the visiting contingent who earlier chanted "Ashley sign him up". Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias left immediately after the second invasion and Sportsmail has learned that owner Mike Ashley's right-hand man was attacked by a large group of Newcastle fans in a bar at the ground before the game and subjected to vile abuse. The invasion came in the 56th minute when substitute Sammy Ameobi, brother of Shola, scored. A popular ditty among Newcastle's travelling support is 'if Shola scores, we're on the pitch' (or something similar) and the 6,183 Newcastle fans in a crowd of 9,700 switched it to the younger brother. Within seconds, Darlington's Jake Simpson gave the ball to Ameobi who drilled it past Darlo keeper Deale Chamberlain.

JH
What kind of an idiot would go into a pub near the ground, before a match, on a Friday night, which will most likely be full of Newcastle fans? The cunt should have expected it.
