loki679
Cyrus a Western first name? Guarantee it'll be because of Miley Cyrus, the names they choose are mad. There are Grandma, Grandad and celebrity names all over the place among Asian students at the uni. True true KI. We had a woman on our works database who worked somewhere down South who tried to get all exotic with her first name but didn't quite pull it off. Poor Miss Fannie Chew. Had to convince one of the parents a couple of weeks ago that 'Easy' wasn't a good English name for their daughter

NG32
Ashley has his critics among the Toon army but he has poured his own money into the club to wipe out the debts meaning the club is in its healthiest position in years. Edit: Suffering two relegations in those 10 years, Joe Kinnear x 2, Alan Pardew for 4 years, Steve McLaren, John Carver, Derek Llambias, Sports Direct everywhere, ground renamed, tax fraud arrests...yeah its been mint. Had to convince one of the parents a couple of weeks ago that 'Easy' wasn't a good English name for their daughter Fanny is a relatively common name here in Sweden. Apparently wasn't great for a friend of a friend named that and Forsell (also fairly common) as her surname when she went to England

afar
The point he makes about it not just about finding the 400 million to buy the club but also putting in place the kind of money they would need to make the club competitive puts it out of reach for most potential buyers. I don't think anything will come of these negotiations, lets hope though that the uncertainty does not effect the recruitment process and consequentially piss off Rafa. number9shirt
£400m is a bit steep, should be closer to 300. The price tag surley means only the very serious & mega rich are contenders, putting off the time wasters.
Sir Toon
I fail to see where we'd need a massive investor to continue to stick the funds in unless they make a pigs arse of it by getting relegated and have to protect their original investment. Running us on the Ashley model of self sustainability would have the advantage straight away of funds generated through merchandise going straight back into the club instead of down Shirebrook. There's also the small topic of ground advertising as the SD logos are stopping us from at least another £10m+ a year as it is. The potential for growth could be massive instead of having a brand that caps it.
NG32
The club will get 100 million a season, 4 seasons in the prem and its paid for itself. Of course its worth 400 mil.

Unfortunately the costs associated with staying in the PL for those 4 seasons, means it isn't quite that simple....

Usual rule of thumb is a business is worth what it generates in revenue over a 3 year period.

The potential for growth could be massive instead of having a brand that caps it. Exactly. In that article they seem to imply that another 100m or so a year for the next 6 seasons is required to compete at the top level, which is probably true enough if you want to be challenging for titles regularly. To do better than Ashley nowhere near that much investment would be required. Some football savy and not draining the club from some of its potential revenue growth areas would be a good start. Any penny invested from their own money would already elevate them over anything Ashley has put in since taking over, apart from adding to its debt to pay for his own mistakes. The club is financially strong and we have an excellent manager, so we have strong foundations to build on for somebody who knows what they're doing (which Ashley obviously doesn't). Kanj
this is the best time for any new investor to come in, you're coming in with the idea that your money will shape/build the squad immediately, the Rafa feel-good, back in the PL, etc. It's also the perfect time for Ashley to sell - his value is probably not going to increase much further at this point, he's selling the "dream" of Rafa, PL football, etc.
