We need a signing to settle everyone down. As it stands were actually weaker than we ended the season. Incredible really when Rafa stated he wanted bodies early so they can settle in.

If Ashley was a normal owner, then you might suggest it wouldn't impact on transfer dealings, because money spent on Premier League standard players by Ashley would be cash that wouldn't have to be invested by new owners, making the club more appealing in terms of player book value.

But Ashley is not a normal owner...

Not stressing over this, could be a number of reasons for it. a) The HMRC situation b) If the talk of interested parties looking to buy the club is correct  it could be to do with that. An early signing would ease the worries, and hopefully we're not far off that.

I find it crazy that anyone can think of Ashley as anything other than guilty until proven innocent after a decade of him being relentlessly guilty.

Some people are unbelievably trusting like. After everything that's happened under Ashley. Must be Stockholm Syndrome.

There's obviously no debating the utter lunacy that's gone on under Ashley. But at this point the trust (edit: or better put, the willingness to accept some at-first-glance odd change) doesn't seem so blindly unfounded if one treats Rafa as the canary in the coal mine.

All hope for sanity under Ashley is still far fetched, I grant you.

It doesnt matter what i think. This place has spent a year saying Rafa will walk if he's unhappy. He's still our manager while this guy has been here for a couple months at least. Whats the point in worrying? Cant change anything, might aswell embrace the positives rather than just be misreable.

Ashley will put Rafa in an isolation tank and giggle while peering at him through that little window.

Newcastle United have been working with Mike Ashley’s close associate Justin Barnes since the turn of the year.

The 52-year-old has been involved at St James’ Park since January, but is not a club employee.

And while his name has entered the public domain during talk of a takeover at Newcastle, this has not been classed as a new development at United.

Rafa Benitez was aware of his presence long before Monday’s widespread reports of overseas investors taking an interest in United

A report in the Times last month described him as a “fixer” in the business world of Ashley.

Ashley sends Barnes in to negotiate deals and in the past he has worked on purchasing deals for Republic, BHS and House of Fraser for Sports Direct.

The Sports Direct’s listing prospectus in 2007 describes him as a trademark lawyer.

Newcastle are now believed to be open to offers on a possible club sale or selling a possible share of the club to overseas investors.

Managing director Lee Charnley and the club’s head of commercial partnerships Dale Aitchison spent around a week in the Far East back in March.

But while fans have had concerns about whether takeover talk will affect Benitez’s recruitment drive this summer, club sources have insisted it won’t have any impact on the manager’s plans.

Nevertheless, supporters will be relieved when they see a steady stream of signings coming through this summer.

Stooge 1: ''The supporters are expecting exciting transfers that can take the club to the next level''.

Ashley: Fuck! Leak some shit about a takeover''.

Stooge 2: The World class manager we have wants you to take a look at his transfer targets''.

Ashley: Get me the fixer!!1

Stooge 1: Ha ha...Good one boss.

Chuckling and backslapping ensues.

He was brought here in January? I am going to blame this monumental bell end on no signings in January and also just Atsu so far this summer. Tight purse pinching cunt.

He must have been hanging around that month too.

If he's been brought in with a specific task in mind, like finding other investors, then fine.

If he has a wider, less clear role, then it's a worry. It could complicate the decision-making process within the club, and Ashley has a bit of a history of that.
