smart business man like Ashley does not throw away money in any situation.

We're both talking about the guy who made the £135m purchase of a football club on a whim without carrying out due diligence, yeah?

Blatantly Sports Direct.

I don't think even Ashley would terminate a paying sponsorship deal a year early, just to put SD.com (or any other of his companies) on the shirts for free.

Don't let logic get in the way of a good conspiracy theory mate  ;)

What about Ashley putting SD on the front of our shirts would constitute a conspiracy?

I was saying that people actually believe it could happen constitutes as a conspiracy.....

I personally can't understand why people would think it can happen, ok he did the Stadium thing but he wasn't giving up a 10m a year deal to advertise his company.

He would be basically throwing away 10m, smart business man like Ashley does not throw away money in any situation.

How do you know that SD shirt sponsorship would be worth less than 10m to him in terms if business growth?

And those HBOS shares worked out nicely as well.

That more than likely translates into opportunism and acting very quickly to push a deal home. Ashley saw his window of opportunity and went for it.

Say what you like about Ashley and the way he acquired Newcastle but to dismiss him as anything other than a "smart business man" is quite silly.

The original post says he doesn't throw money away in any situation. When clearly he has done several times, one of which was when buying NUFC, having been fuelled by his cash windfall after the Sports Direct IPO.

I've heard that we have done something similar to what Spurs have done.

One sponsor for league games, and one sponsor for cup/(possible European) games.

Equals more strips to sell ffs

Except Spurs sponsors were the same company. It's like us having Virgin Money for the PL then Virgin Intergalactic for Europa matches.

Spurs have a different sponsor for their cup games, Investect bank.

'Tottenham Hotspur has signed a deal under which specialist bank and asset management firm Investec will become its second shirt sponsor.

Software infrastructure company Autonomy is the White Hart Lane club's shirt sponsor in the Premier League'

Any reason why the head rest on the dugout seats were covered last night? Don't they usually have sports direct on them

I noticed that. First i thought it was the uefa ban on stadium sponsors but the other 9734734 adverts were left untouched.
