I think this is part of the point of what Webb has done though, "clear and obvious" makes the rulebook vague without actually touching the rules and takes the pressure off refs. It's completely ruined the sport, but I do think we're seeing more and more excuses bleeding in from fans and pundits as to why stonewall penalties aren't given.

 

The Fraser example in the image, as it was away from the ball, there was this sort of stuff"yeah the ref has missed a foul, but VAR shouldn't overturn it as he wouldn't have gotten to the ball anyway." Nothing in the rules says that, but fans will accept it and even start repeating it themselves.

 

Same with VVD, it's an 'orange card', he could have walked, yet it's not even a penalty because you could make the argument VVD was expecting a collision himself, or something to sort of explain the decision.

Had some mates in our Whatsapp generally saying we deserved to win, we played well, they were shit.  But a couple actually saying the first thing the ref gave them was the early whistle at the end

I think MacAllister was carded because it was a promising attack and he had no intention to play the ball. IIRC Schär was going past him and Gordon was open on the left.

Not sure it was mentioned in the match day thread but the trent thing really annoyed me. When he got carded he was right up in the refs face sure he put hands on him and think I read his lips right iam sure he said "but I have only been on the pitch 2 minutes" like that excuses a bookable offence? The respect the ref and captains only seem to only be when it suits them or they been told after the rice thing to lay off it.

So just watched the replay of the ref blowing his whistle. He literally sees the attack coming and that we are 3 on 1. Then just rushes to blow it up so we can't attack. 100% think if roles were reversed he'd be never do that.

Bent as fuck. You can't help wondering if PL refs are on a cartel bonus payment plan to give them the game altering decisions. Liverpool get up to 10mins extra if they need a goal, we didn't even get 60 seconds.

What makes the full time whistle part worse is that you know he doesn’t do that if it was a Liverpool attack.

 

I don’t think referees are consciously biased, but they know they get a lot more attention getting a Liverpool decision wrong compared to say a Brentford decision wrong.

Yeah, here’s a fuller frame, VVD is still running, VVD, the player in the middle and Robertson both start pulling up in the next frame. Madley could clearly see the move developing and blew instead of letting the move play out. Even more so because of the extra time within the extra time.

Just caught up with Ref Watch. Dermot Gallagher was happy the VVD didn’t use his elbow as a “weapon” on Gordon but did “Leave one on him” so wasn’t violent conduct. The ball was live so I guess he’s agreeing it was at the least a foul and being fair side the area the VAR should have intervened for a penalty?

So the ball was out of play for 1 minute and 59 seconds according to sky, yet 10 seconds of additional injury time was played. Ref bottled it as he didn't want to be in the headlines denying little Liverpool.
