Well if rules of the game are expecting referees and VAR to judge on ‘degree’ of shirt pull then it’s not surprising.

If the contact was minimal, why did he even need to pull his shirt in the first place? He could have just not laid hands on him at all no?

I’m more upset Woltemade went to ground rather than controlling and finishing. Felt like he even though there was a shirt pull, he still could have controlled the ball if he wanted to. Had he have stretched for the ball, he would have fell backwards from the shirt pull and there’d be a legitimate case.

To draw attention to the foul? That's basically the reason everyone goes down always, they could almost always continue if they wanted. But it's still a foul.

The encouragement is to go down to point out the foul. Refs won't give you a thing if you play through it, especially in the box. They built this world and then ignore their creation. I understand this but if he focused on the ball, surely the duration his shirt would been pulled would have been longer and he would have fell backwards in a more natural motion.

But that's not what I asked, I was asking why the defender needed to pull his shirt in the first place. Why didn't he just leave Woltemade alone and let him line up a shot unhindered?

It was a penalty.

 

Had it gone against us, yes I'd have thought it was soft, but would have had to admit eventually there's no real arguing with the facts of it.

 

It was a clear attempt to impede a player from getting a shot away and not really trying to win the ball. All for a contact sport but that was a foul.

 

PGMOL apologies mean nothing and aren't for the likes of us. If Howe mentioned it, and he doesn't normally complain about refs, you can be sure he thinks the same.

I asked for a PGMOL apology two days back. I think there needs to be a stink kicked up at this sort of nonsense, otherwise you can bet the rules will be applied selectively. I personally don't think we have objected strongly enough, we should have filed an official complaint.

Harsh I think. The tug (fnaar fnaar Finbar) whether enough to topple him, definitely delayed him getting to the ball and potentially turning for a shot. Even a second’s delay makes all the difference in such situations.
