The commentator was probably correct when they said that if the ref had given it as a pen it would have stood but there wasn't enough of a foul to warrant giving one when the ref had said no.  If they'd called the ref over to the screen to watch in slow motion though I think he'd have given it.

You can't blame the ref, but then isn't that what VAR is supposed to be there for?

VAR really is awful. Gives microscopic offsides and pedantic, unintentional handballs but ignores that. He had a hold of his shirt for 2 or 3 seconds. It prevented Woltemade getting to the ball he'd just controlled with a decent chance to turn and shoot. If it was a split second pull of the shirt I'd say fair enough, but that's an outrageous non-call imo.

Exactly , ref can't give it unless he can see through Woltemade , it's 100% on the VAR officials.

If someone is tugging a shirt of a striker in the box there's no decision to be made. It's a stonewall penalty. I think this needs to be queried and we need an official apology.

It should be. Was it last season or the one before where Sean had his shirt pulled as he was about to shoot and it meant he couldn’t get his foot to the ball? No penalty.

Rule change needed. Pushing and nudging is one thing but a shirt pull in the area should be an automatic penalty.

I thought it was already tbh. Since when was pulling shirts legal?

Your reminder that - after a goal was disallowed because VDV got pushed into KWP who fell over - VDV got literally rugby-tackled to the ground at a corner and VAR did nothing.

They make it up as they go along.

It's not, and this nonsense on it's not enough, any pull of the shirt should be penalised. When you enter degrees of the pull, then it becomes an utter mess, example being our game today. It's our refs, on the pitch or in the Var room that are just totally inept.

Now i know this will bring up but a slight pull shouldn't be a foul, it should. If not just remove it from the laws altogether if you're not going to implement it properly.

More intelligent than dogs apparently. I still eat them, but after finding that out, no longer judge those who eat dogs.

It's not the decision itself that's annoyed me tbh. It was a shirt pull and it should, technically, have been a pen. That pull happens in the centre circle and it's a free-kick pretty much every time. He did have his shirt pulled but I must admit he did collapse a little too easily and I'm not a fan of just collapsing but I can understand why he did it, especially in the box.

My main gripe with not giving it today is that I know for a fact that certain other teams will get that call at some points this season. Some teams will appeal for that, it will be given on the field and VAR will 100% confirm it and it'll be completely justified and swept under the carpet and universally accepted as a correct decision and we'll never see it or hear any fuss about it ever again. Some clubs (probably playing in red) will get that exact decision and get a free goal as a result. And that's what's pissing me off

Casemiro got a 2nd yellow for something similar yesterday. It was a penalty, nothing clever about it, Woltemade was impeded from attempting to get the ball. Might look soft but he stopped Woltemade having any chance of getting the ball.

7ft tall and collapse like that. Naahh.

Still a pen mind.

Looks like Voller but needs to be a bit more Klinsmann.

It's one where I've been wanting a penalty awarded and the forward gets booked for diving for ages.

Casemiro's second yellow was identical to a challenge Barnes was on the end of in the box during the first half.

Yep. I don't care if Wolt made a meal of it, the defender pulled his shirt because he thought he was getting away from him. Otherwise why do it?

If you don't want penalties given against you then don't grab shirts in the penalty area.

Did the shirt pull make him go down? No

Did the shirt pull stop him from making the play he intended on the ball? Yes

On field he should be booked for diving (imo) but VAR should be giving the pen
