Yorkie
Aye, Beardsley will be the last one, whilst N'Zogbia showed glimpses of it - though his was more about blind pace than 'cleverness'.
BrettNUFC
Beardsley was the only other one I can recall that was as elusive on the ball. Good post in any case Yorkie. We need to be building our team and system around this guy, playing him on the right in a 4-4-2 isn't going to get the best out of him. Beardsley in his talk in said he thinks Marv is just as good as Ben Arfa. In training hard to split them, both have their days.
Mole_Toonfan
No new compilation of his acts on the tube? Dissapointed. Don't worry, if he keeps this up the end of season compilation will probably be about an hour long.

Ben Arfa is just a tank at running at people and moving forward with the ball. Marv releases it much earlier but with really precise passes, his movement is superb and he has incredible touch. while he doesn't have the pace and dribble technique of Ben Arfa he probably has the best technique after Ben Arfa in our squad

That'd be mint like, would love to see Marveaux and Ben Arfa either side of Cisse at some point.
Mole_Toonfan
To me comparing the two players, Marveaux remind me more of Silva while Ben Arfa reminds me of some ridiculous mix of Robben and Ribery. Not to say they are as good as them but in style that's who they remind me of, both are class but for different reasons. Just hope Marv can stay fit, Marv and HBA running at teams would be ridiculous.
Guest firetotheworks
Beardsley and Ginola could, although that wasn't really Beardsley's main strength and Ginola didn't do it for as long or as on the same scale as Ben Arfa.
Guest firetotheworks
I don't know why that Taylor and Ba photo hasn't had more of a reaction like. It's proper hilarious.
Dan Gleebals
I think because of HBA and Marvaux we are not is such a hurry for another striker. Both could play in a front 3 IMO.

I would agree if Ba and Cisse didn't piss off to Africa most seasons lol, if AFCON didn't exist then i'd argue we don't even need a striker as we can just replace Ba or Cisse with a wide player. AFCON is the reason we need one IMO.

No way Shola could be the meat in that sandwich!
Lenny
Haven't seen enough from Marveaux to have a valid opinion of whether he could play as part of a front 3. From what I have seen he certainly looks very technical, but looks like he might be better suited to sitting a little deeper and pulling the strings. taxfree
Marveaux certainly used to be a (very good) left winger. Should have it in him still.
Gallowgate Toon
I don't think a wide forward/winger role suits Marveaux tbh, he strikes me as a wide midfielder more than anything. Interesting comment from Beardsley but I don't think they're really comparable players. HBA is a forward, Marveaux is a midfielder and they have different skill sets. Guest BooBoo
HBA is up there with Beardsley and first six months Ginola for getting fans off their seats. Robert just behind.

Haven't seen enough of Beardsley at least not live in St James, but does he really dribble like HBA on a consistent basis?
Guest BooBoo
Beardsley wasn't as fast as HBA but had incredible close control and was a much bigger goal threat as he could shoot with accuracy from anywhere. Basically, the most complete second striker I've seen in the shirt.

Basically, the most complete second striker I've seen in the shirt. Ben Arfa is a better creator while Beardsley was the better finisher imo, both could take games and win them but Beardsley edges it for me imo, not as good a dribbler but had amazing control and his long shots are something even Alan Shearer would be green with envy over. Haz
Beardsley was, for me, the most complete player I've ever seen in the Black & White.
Disco
Beardsley was invariable the hardest worker on the pitch too, very rare you get that from a player which such ridiculous natural talent. To the YouTube machine...

Interesting comment from Beardsley but I don't think they're really comparable players. HBA is a forward, Marveaux is a midfielder and they have different skill sets. Some good posts last two pages Yorkie refreshed my memory of that shoulder drop turn - remarkable how in the first game back with everyone looking a tiny bit rusty ben arfa still had 4 or 5 mouth-watering moments of class, a couple that ended up contributing to goals. As for Marveaux - I don't think he's quite explosive enough for a wide striking role - however you look at Mata and Silva (or even Nasri) and at times they have played as part of a front 3 in a nominally wide role where they drift around and drop back a bit to act more as final-third playmakers. I see Marveaux as more that kind of player than a Ben Arfa or Podolski style wide forward who might be more about tricks, pace or directness.
