Hatem Ben Arfa

The recurrence of impact injuries (the broken leg, ankle), or just a simple muscle cork, are the obvious roadblocks capable of stunting HBA's late season charge.

The dangers come in two forms, and it's down to the HBA's importance to the team. The second danger is the individual mindset of DeJong, a reckless enforcer who falls under the banner of hatchet-man. It's a pity, because with the ball at the feet he's a good footballer.

The first danger being Stoke's collective bunch of s***-kickers ie. Shawcross, Huth etc.

As a team they're spoilers, and have the potential to railroad a side's momentum. I'll be happy if HBA (the same applies to our other ball-players) gets through 90mins unscathed. Another virtuoso display from him in this one will come  as a bonus.

I mean this in jest. At  their training  headquarters Pulis has probably stuck a photo  of HBA up on the whiteboard, accompanied by a slightly heavy brown  paper bag bearing a message like 'go get him boys!'.

As always, Stoke have nothing to play for.. very much doubt they'll be giving away monnaie for injured opposition.

And if anything, De Jong will be mindful of his tackles on Ben Arfa. He's a brutal player but he's not a brainless chav like Catts for example..

He may have more of footballing brain on his shoulders, but he's still instinctively brutal though. Players like that are untrustworthy.

Yep. He doesn't go out to hurt players when he plays football but when he plays football, he will hurt players.

He was linked to them for a long time a few years back, one of the ones the ITK council were "sure on" IIRC. Remember seeing a lot of prospective line-ups posted by their fans with HBA out wide.

Catts completely loses the plot, there's no discrimination as to who he targets, and his action is usually worthy of a straight red. Hence the inference that he is lacking a football brain.

DeJong is instinctively brutal. When he targets a ball-carrier he hits them at pace, he leaves nothing to spare. But there's a large degree of premeditation in what he does. He'll sacrifice an early yellow as a means of laying into opposition's most creative ball-carrier. It's all about sewing a seed of doubt into the head of such a player (whether it be HBA etc), get them hearing footsteps for the rest of the game. If there's an influential creator anywhere in his vicinity you cannot trust him.

If football was properly refereed and governed thugs like Cattermole and De Jong, who intentionally go out to injure opponents, would not be making a living out of the game. Sadly they still are.

De Jong's not a thug though. On rare occasion does he lose his head and do something Cattermole-like. He'll make a good tackle but make sure the opponent feels the tackle. He'll make petty fouls to interrupt talented forwards. Much like his buddy Van Bommel, when he picks up a yellow he'll stop doing it but for the smallest foul. Whereas Cattermole will go in recklessly and with anger in the 89th minute with his side winning 3-0 and an important game coming up the following week. De Jong's no Cattermole but he's a danger. He's not likely to start anyway.

Well don't know if there's getting a huge coverage on him in UK but here they need to calm down... Ok, he scored a beautiful goal but he needs to be left alone now and focus on the end of the season.

It's strange because his goal against Blackburn was better or more difficult (well, on my opinionat least) and it didn't get THAT coverage and attention...
