I would say he was average - I wouldn't say he was poor.

To be fair when he's performed poorly recently he's been out of position. As a false nine - or bafflingly on the left.

Didn't play very well, but looked as if he was growing into the position before we went down to ten. Wanted to do too much when he saw the ball after that.

Having seen Ben Arfa play on the right wing and through the middle I'd always play him on the right wing. He just seems to be more productive when cutting in from the right. He has less players to take on when he is on the right. If Ben Arfa is played on the wing we should have someone cover for him when he goes forward.

Playing there against Anzhi didnt work and it didnt work today either. Get him on the wing against Bardsley and he'll cause delicious damage.

Yeah was wasted up front on his own - should have swapped position with Remi.

Didn't look comfortable in the role today, thinking too much.

It really helped us having someone up top who could retain possession though, not averse to him getting a few more goes up top to see if he gets the hang of it.

Not sure TBH, I thought Remy and Gouff were doing well in their positions. In a way Ben Arfa was sacrificed for the good of the team as a whole.

Playing him central or in this bollocks 'false 9' shite is a waste of his talent and what he can give us and a waste of a shirt for the team. We effectively played with 9 men until he went off because he could give the team nothing up there all alone. Pardew was a fool to play him there and a fool to keep him on when we went down to 10. He should of started Shola central or at least brought him on after the break.

I thought he did relatively well for a position he's clearly not suited to. Did quite a lot of chasing about as well first half - again, relatively speaking. Second half he clearly got frustrated and tried to do too much on the ball (at one point there were about five Liverpool players around him trying to stop us breaking and after beating a couple he inexplicably failed to pass it and so lost it) before losing interest in the hard work. Pardew could have taken him off earlier tbh.

Remy should have went up top instead of him as he's more suited. In saying this they both need to be on the wings against Sunderland, if they are and we can switch the wings quickly when either of them is being doubled up on then we will have tremendous joy against them.

Ben Arfa against Colback.
