NUFC transfer rumours in the press

Recommended Posts

A pretty astute manager would just not play them together, surely?

A pretty astute manager would probably rotate them, but then an astute manager would have done that with Ba and Cisse as well. Pardew's reasoning at the time was he liked to see "goals on the pitch" so that sometimes translated as Ba on the left wing or Cisse on the right.

He's a bit like Robbie Keane. A number of clubs have paid big money but ended up disappointed.

The article doesn't address the difficult areas - whether a specialist finisher is the best bet for a team with our aims, and whether Bent would be a replacement for Cisse, a cover for him, or a partner.

Alan Pardew is expecting Newcastle United’s French foreign legion to lead a St James’ Park revival from the front next season – after admitting failure last season taught him a lot about his squad.

United are not expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer, with just two front-line additions likely – if they manage to hold on to pedigree players like Yohan Cabaye over the close season.

Skipper Fabricio Coloccini’s decision to stay on Tyneside for another season means any recruitment is likely to be centred on the forward-line, with Darren Bent and Loic Remy both targets. United are also understood to have another Ligue 1 striker in their sights.

The limited scope of United’s recruitment may be a disappointment for Newcastle fans but Pardew believes United will be improved by the players who joined in January getting a pre-season under their collective belts.

While they struggled to keep their heads above water during the relegation scrap, the United boss firmly believes that they will prove their worth during the course of next season.

Two additions  quality

Remy and a winger and i'm satisfied.

Yep. Or any decent striker that could work with/instead of Cisse and a winger

Those are the only areas I think we lack bodies/quality.

I agree. Assuming we dont have too many injuries those areas are by far the priority. We have decent enough cover everywhere else and almost nothing there.

2 additions would be fine as long as they are of a sufficient quality.

Agree, it's easy to forget we landed quite a few signings in January, so a wide player and a quality forward would give us a very decent squad.

could do with a CB imo

Now Colo's definitely staying I don't see it as a problem area.

Fair enough, I just don't really want Willo back in the team at any point

He's not great and if he was on the cusp of the first team I'd agree but as a fourth choice, someone who will only be called on a few times a season, he's quite capable.

I'm sure most people don't but our CF pool consists of Cisse, Gouffran, Shola and Campbell and our LW pool consists of Jonas and Obertan.

While our CB pool consists of Coloccini, Taylor, Yanga-Mbiwa and Williamson.

You decide what is more important, its clear to me that getting some goals and width in the team should be a priority.

Fwiw as Pardew has Streete involved in first team training from now i could see him being groomed for Williamsons role in the team should he do well. Cant see us buying any CB until they have seen him working with the senior squad over pre season.
