The new number nine took just 57 minutes to open his account in black and white with a sizzling left-foot blockbuster that left Aston Villa keeper Shay Given with no chance. Cisse shone on his Magpies bow but firmly believes he will only get better as he settles in on Tyneside, as Newcastle aim for bigger and better in the final 14 games of the Premier League campaign. After firing United back into a Europa League slot, Cisse – who scored 22 goals in 32 starts for Bundesliga side Freiburg last term – told the Chronicle: “I feel that this can be the first of many to come for me at Newcastle United. It was a really good goal for me. “The aim from now is to keep working hard in training. If I do that I would like to think that I can get more goals like that. “Firstly, I have to work hard and get to know my team-mates. “The aim is to obviously add more goals to the team. And then more goals should come.” Yet Cisse revealed that he could not have done it without the incredible backing around him in recent days. The 26-year-old, whose record of 39 goals in the Bundesliga in Germany persuaded United to swoop for his services, is yet to command the English language and former Toon ace Olivier Bernard has been helping the player settle at the club. Cisse was keen to show his gratitude, adding: “I’m happy with my first goal. But I have a lot of thank yous to give out. “Firstly the club for signing me, my team-mates for supporting me since I came here and thanks to all of the supporters who made it so memorable.” Cisse admits that he had dreamed of scoring on his debut and there could not have been a better script as he fired home a wonder strike at the Gallowgate End. The ex-Metz star has had plenty of time to think about his United bow after spending a fortnight with Senegal in Equatorial Guinea after tying up his move to St James’ Park. His country suffered an early exit in the competition, but his agony was quickly replaced by ecstasy on his debut. The ex-Metz and Freiburg striker even joked his rousing reception was so hearty he didn’t need to warm up. The 26-year-old African star was greeted with rapturous applause when merely warming up at the Leazes End during the victory over Villa – before raising the roof at the Gallowgate with a scorching strike that few will ever forget. The new No 9 – who replaced injured striker Leon Best early in the game – enjoyed a standing ovation at St James’ Park. The welcome left him bowled over. Cisse told the Chronicle: “From the moment I started warming up I felt them behind me.
