I guess Pardew's shite about having to wait on other things to happening before we make our moves could be regarding the resolution of the Cisse issue.

As much as I hope it's not the case, it makes sense that Bent would be a replacement for Cisse at this stage.

Still not convinced we've got the whole story.

However, there is no hypocrisy if someone gambles but doesn't accept payday loan companies on moral grounds. It would be hypocrisy if he was loansharking himself....

Surely if Cisse got to wear his charity's logo instead of the Wonga stuff, that would be great PR from a Wonga perspective. Sure their logo wouldn't be in every picture of him celebrating (hopefully) etc, but people would always make the link between them and the charity anyway

Except the link would be 'these guys are good and wonga are evil'.

But then other players will just pipe up and complain.

It could have worked out better like. I mean, Wonga are a shite brand and horrible company, but it's not like we did anything actually wrong having them as sponsor. You can't really get into a situation where you're consulting the religious beliefs of your players about commercial decisions.

(Not that I disagree with Cisse's stance necessarily)

 I love you Ian

I'm fairly sure they don't care about people's opinions of them though, as long as their name is out there (which, although it wouldn't be, would still draw attention to Wonga imo)

Yeah, but I was responding to the suggestion that they would benefit from positive association with the charity Cisse would wear.

Ah I see. I meant that - from Wonga's perspective - people would look at Cisse's shirt and think "Why does he have a charity logo there?", then think "What do all the other players have?", then think "Wonga". I doubt anyone would conclude that Cisse wearing charity gear = Wonga are nice lovely people

Fuck this shit man. I had a feeling when everyone kept debating if Pardew would play Bent and Cisse together something was up.

Also, if the issue really is just about wonga and not something else, couldn't Cisse just wear a shirt with the blue wonga box but it doesn't say wonga on it. Then both are happy, Cisse isn't advertising and blue box still sort of tell's you it's wonga.

The guy has his wages paid into a bank account, i'm fairly certain of that. Does he tell his bank he doesn't want interest on his savings? Does he fuck. If this is solely about Wonga then i'd sell him.

Guest chicken little

Loads (most?) banks offer accounts that comply with sharia.

Also, there is the notion that someone's can find things agreeable or otherwise in varying degrees.

That doesn't exist on N-O. See the forum's opinion to Alan Pardew. Either Joop wearing lothario and best manager in the league or a slimy, lying tosser who will get us relegated.

I cannot believe it was allowed to reach a point where he didn't go on a crucial pre-season tour purely over a squabble on wonga. There absolutely has to be another reason (bid has come in, he has requested to leave, injured? etc) At the very least he could have gone away with the squad for morale purposes and to train with the squad even if he didn't play in the games.

I'm hoping there is another reason now because if not then this is a total and utter farce which as per usual has been handled dreadfully by the club.

In hindsight Wonga should really have quietly said to the club they were okay with Cisse wearing a shirt without a badge. If Cisse leaves on the back of it, it's hardly going to improve their image and the whole business has given them more negative publicity they could have done without.

Except of course both they and Ashley see all publicity as good publicity.

It's a nonsense.

He plays in the Barclays League

He wore a Virgin Money Shirt.

He likes gambling in casinos

He sits smoking shisha pipes in a scruffy cafe.

It's a conveniant excuse to engineer either a move or a big pay rise.

I wonder if he invests his massive pay packet in ISA's and High Interest Offshore Bank Accounts as well????

He has lost all sympathy taking this stance. Utterly hypocritical.

Unless he comes out and explains himself while taking into account his own past actions, I and most can only assume he's taking this position because he wants a move.

The thing I don't understand is why the other Muslims in our squad - Tiote and Ben Arfa - haven't kicked up the same amount of fuss if money lending at a rate of interest represents such a fundamental breach of Sharia law.

To me, it seems as if Cisse wants out and is just using this whole situation as a sort of moral smokescreen to protect himself. I'm not the biggest fan of the current regime or Wonga by any stretch but I think Cisse has to be viewed as the primary cause of all the disruption in this instance.

Inclined to agree.
