Ou of interest are we the only club around (apart from Hearts who were owned by a corrupt Lithuanian madman) to be sponsored by one of these loanshark companies?

Blackpool were sponsored by Wonga.

Still are, they agreed a new deal.

Ah, i thought they were going exclusive to us. Well at least it's not only us then.

He should adopt a new celebration where he hides the sponsor with his arms, or folds up the shirt from the bottom so it's not visible.

or kneel on the floor and put his face down, hiding the sponsor. bit daft but it might work

Get Cisse out if he doesnt want to play for the team. Him and Pardew was excuse galore last season. 13 goals in 47 apparences is not good enough, he should be glad that he gets to keep the number 9 Jersey..

Who said he doesn't want to play for the team?

What other reason could it be? do you really buy into that Wonga bullshit he is comming with? Come on he was playing with Virgin money last year...

When did Cisse make excuses last year? And personally I don't think this goal return was bad considering he spent a while on the wing and the rest of the season on his own up front with the rest of the team scared to leave our own defensive third.

Thx for stating the excuse... When Ba was here how much was he really on the wing? Remember him and Ba changing the positions under the game, and also both playing up front. Second part of the season he was playing up front, he missed some really good chances which a 5 yro could have scored from. His crazy goals are to random, and he wasted to many opportunities imho by trying trick-shots and stuff like that. We cant afford the luxury of having a striker like that, even though I love his goals, I dont buy into the "winger" excuse, nor the one that he was up by his own and didn't get any help from his teammates.

I think Cisse will play for us again, based on nothing at all.

It'll go something like this. Crunch talks with our new DoF result in fuck all, and Cisse is given an ultimatum - either wear a shirt with Wonga on or be suspended indefinately without pay.

Aye I imagine talks with Kinnear will sort it out.

''So Sissy, they've been calling you wanker?''

well played haha. Could be more blatant about it, even when running away after scoring. Cover that shit up.

Shame it's taken him to do what the fans should have done in the first place. We were easily bought on side by the cynical stadium name change reversal though (myself included). Roll over and have our tummys tickled - whether its immoral loan shark sponsors, lunatic directors of football, ugly stadium branding, key player sales. Good luck to him whether its a legitimate moral argument or if he just wants a move. Either is justifiable because the club is a fucking joke with a passive, weather worn fanbase willing to eat whatever shit is served.

Spot on.

Yep - Difficult to argue with that. Zero motivation/enthusiasm for the upcoming campaign.

Decent post except for the key sales bit. That line keeps getting trotted out.

Who have we sold again? Carroll? Enrique? Ba?

One ridiculous bid, one player who refused to play unless sold and one guy who went as he had a clause in his contract.

It doesn't really matter what the reasons were at the end of the day, the objective should be to build a stronger team each year. With Ba gone, Best gone and probably Cisse gone, there's going to need to be some pretty nifty work in the transfer market over the next month to get us back to where we were a year ago. We need strikers on the pitch not Wonga badges.

Selling players isn't the issue, sometimes it can't be avoided. It's getting in the quality replacements in time that is the difference between a club that has ambition and one that is more concerned about balancing the books.

I agree, I was just talking about the idea we're always looking to sell everyone.

How is Cisse being hypocritical? Who is he lending money to?

Because he quite happily wore a shirt with virging money on, while playing in the barclays premier league. They're both money lenders who chatge interest.

What Cisse is effectively saying is that Sharia law is ok with interest rates of less than 50%. Which is absolute bollocks.

It isn't.

The definition of usury differs depending on where you are in the Muslim world. Some consider any interest at all to be usury but many believe that only excessive interest is usury.

Exactly. Interest based loans can be a real help for people to start businesses or buy a home. On the other hand the Sopranos version of interest where you pay the money at 100% by next week or get your legs broken is a different kettle of fish.

Nail on head.

Having had a fair bit of dealing with Barclays both personally and professionally i'd say Barclays are a horrendous company as well yet he's quite happy with them.

But their entire business model doesn't rely on getting people to take out loans they can't pay back, as is the case with payday loans companies which get 50% from their income not from interest, but from fines and charges for missing payments.

Barclays charge horrendous amounts for missing payments and going over your limits just like all financial institutions.

To counter balance that they also over 0% interest for 22months on balance transfers.

The whole 'no interest' thing goes back to the days when there were no banks and people were lending money then expecting ridiculous sums back.  But in the modern world yes you can get accounts that don't pay interest should you wish but islamic banks do pay interest.  Wonga goes back to the days of when there were no banks, lending people money whilst charging ridiculous sums on interest.

At the end of the day he has an issue with our sponsors, it doesn't matter if it's religious or personal opinion, it doesn't matter if we think Wonga is in the same industry as Virgin or Northern Rock (which arguably is ten times worse seen as they contributed to the recession in 2007).

He has an opinion and he is making a stand.

Good on him, he has principles and he's standing by them...how many people on here could say they've done something similar?

For those old enough, who remembers Daly Thompson making a stand in the 1984 Olympics? He was against alcohol advertising and refused to wear any logos on the kit and was close to being kicked out of the Olympics. I think he had pretty much the entire world behind him at the time.......and won (both medals and his cause).

I think we need to take a step back and stop taking it so personally.....FFS the majority of fans weren't happy with Wonga becoming our sponsors, at least someone has the balls to stand up against them.

If it doesn't work out, so be it, good luck to him and I'm sure we'll make most of our money back!
