So, at present, in the play-off round (which is what we'll enter if we finish 5th) there is: Stuttgart, Sporting, Metalist, PSV, AZ, Alkmaar.

Yikes, quite a pool already.

We have to play one of them? Shit, I don't want Europa league either

Amongst several others yet to be determined.

When most leagues have ended can we have a list of the teams we may end up playing?

Can't wait to see who we might play in the Europa next year, (deliberately not mentioning the champions league).

As it stands these look to be the likely participants from the other big leagues:

Bayer Leverkusen

Stuttgart

Hannover

Lazio or Udinese

Napoli

Inter Milan

Lyon

Marseille

Rennes

Sporting Lisbon

Marítimo

PSV or Feyenoord

AZ

Heerenveen

plus the winner of the Dutch league's Europa play-offs.

La Liga is still wide open with just 4 points seperating 5-10, currently Atletico Madrid and Mallorca look like going through, but both could snatch fourth place from Malaga on the final day. Bilbao will definitely go through as cup runners-up.

:scared:

But we're mint so we'll be fine...

Isn't there some sort of seeding where teams who enter at the playoff round play teams who have qualified from 3rd qual round?

Taken from 2011/12 Europa League guidebook...

Seeding of clubs

9.02 The UEFA administration seeds clubs for the qualifying phase, the play-offs

and the group stage, in accordance with the club coefficient rankings

established at the beginning of the season and with the principles set by the

Club Competitions Committee. If, for any unforeseen reason, any of the

participants in such rounds are not known at the time of the draw, the

coefficient of the club with the higher coefficient of the two clubs involved in

an undecided tie will be used for the purposes of the draw. If the titleholder

takes part in the group stage, it is always the top seed.

9.03 For seeding purposes, rankings are drawn up on the basis of a combination

of 20% of the value of the respective association’s coefficient for the period

from 2006/07 to 2010/11 inclusive and the clubs’ individual performances in

the UEFA club competitions during the same period. Each club retains the

cumulative number of points obtained during this period.

9.04 When seeding is applicable, an equal  number of clubs will be seeded and

unseeded.

Make of that what you will but looking at last years draw the 3rd qualifier looks like it was seeded.

So we're unlikely to be seeded as we've ony played in Europe for one of those seasons.

Nah, that's from this season so we won't have any of that. It'll just be the slice of England's league rating. So our coefficient will be about 16.857 which gives us a ranking of about 105 out of all teams in UEFA.

Saying that Stoke got an OK draw to get to the groups this year against Hajduk and Thun and were seeded in the playoff round and they'd have the same coefficient as we did going into it.

Either way it's a nice problem to have.

UEFA confirm this mythical 'extra place' doesn't exist:

Titleholder

The UEFA Champions League titleholder is guaranteed a place in the group stage even if it does not qualify for  the competition through its domestic championship.

a) If the titleholder comes from an association entitled to four places in the UEFA Champions League and qualifies for the UEFA Europa League through its domestic competitions, the lowest-ranked club of the association’s UEFA Champions League representatives is automatically transferred to the UEFA Europa League  (into the latest possible round where there is a vacancy). In this case, the number of places to which the titleholder's association is entitled in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League does not change.

Someone should tell Moyes, he was banging on about still being in the hunt for a Europa league spot.

I understand that you'll have variations depending on Cup wins/league placings. But it's an absolute fucking joke that Premier League managers don't know the rules. Stuff like this needs to be more clearly clarified earlier.

Regardless of who we get, as it'll be August, let's hope we get somewhere near a beach, and a Jet2 or Easyjet destination, for 2 or 3 days in the sun. 'Cos we'll not get a bloody summer here!

Aside from getting your arse slashed by a scooter based radgee a trip to Rome would be ideal as we'd get fuck loads of tickets and it's a canny place to visit.
