Should have dropped Simpson to the bench and started Santon though. Simpson needs that kind of a wake up call, he has had no opposition for that RB slot. Raylor doesnt count. Get the feeling that its not supposed to be asymmetrical like that. Just what does Simpson do that Santon doesn't do better? littlelunchbox Posted March 18, 2012 Share Posted March 18, 2012 usual shit from us, played well for 15mins, after getting a goal, and then crawled into our usual shell again, inviting the opposition back into the game. still not enough movement from our team and can't keep hold of the ball long enough and giving away procession. we created some chances, Cisse had three very good chances. scored one. Defensively he's been caught out of position on more than one occasion and doesn't look comfortable with players running at him. Quelle surprise. He's never the answer. We need to buy a left-back. It lends itself to less hoof ball purely down the availability of personnel in the middle. Indeed, would be really nice to see after a few games in a row and Tiote in midfield along with a proper midfield general aka a playmaker. Also it allows to play the Front 3 and be defensively balanced. Hoping its a long term thing and not just a spur of the moment type thing from Pardew. Totally agree Mole. I actually reckon that Pardew had this sort of formation in mind when he signed Cabaye etc in the summer. Anything that lends itself to less lumping of the ball from Simpson et al wins my vote. We get everyone behind the ball when we don't have it, and it seems a relatively orthodox 4-3-3 when we do have it, on the counter. I do like it when Cisse and particularly Ba get back to aid with the phases of play. The latter is good at receiving it on the half-way line and laying it off. Neither are afraid to get back and help out defensively either. It's promising at the moment, but we can't afford to sit back on it like Wolves. We need to attack again. The longer we stay in the lead, the more knackered from pressing high they'll get, and more desperate. No reason why we can't hit em for a good 3-0 here. He was doing okay with it for the first 15-20 minutes. It looked like the old Williamson - but then one rick later, and we're back to all being diffident on the ball at the back Ah well. Babysteps. They'll get there. Gotta push through this uncomfortable period, and keep playing football until it becomes more natural than the hoofing we've been accustomed to. powellnufc Posted March 18, 2012 Share Posted March 18, 2012 Cabaye has been pretty quiet today as he doesnt seem to have much options on the ball apart from when Gutierrez pushes up on the left wing. Ben Arfa has been playing very wide on the right, whereas Cisse is much more central, which limits Cabaye's options when he has the ball.
