It's not even whether it's "gay" or not, it just seems awkward. What, the kissing on cheeks? It's a perfectly normal greeting in their culture AFAIK. Had to greet my coaches like that during my time in Belgium, was always weird but it's a part of the francophone culture. Had a teammate who wasn't Belgian and had no idea it was cheek-to-cheek so he used to actually kiss the coach on the cheek.
