Also, I'm gonna go out and say it, I think he offers more both defensively and offensively than Santon.

At this moment in time, definitely. Whilst Debuchy is now playing as we expected him to, Santon just doesn't seem to be making progress for me at all. At best he's been unnoticeable lately because he doesn't contribute much but doesn't make any clangers either. He needs to improve for me, or it's time to give Dummett or Haidara a run in the side to see what they can offer.

I don't know, three or four weeks ago you could have reversed that statement. Davide was more than adequate defensively and positionally (which has been his biggest issue) in my opinion. The problems came in possession which isn't usually the issue. I believe he will improve and is unquestionably our best option at that position right now.

That through ball for the Sissoko chance, about an hour in, was one of the best passes we've made all season tbh. Won the ball brilliantly then absolutely perfectly weighted for Moussa to run onto.

 Something Simspson could've never done. Both the tackle high up the pitch and the pass.

Swear Simpson did something similar v Benfica away

Yeah, played a great ball for Siss to set up the first goal.

Debuchy looks like he's gained a yard of pace this season.  He looked slow and cumbersome at times last year.  Pleased for the lad, he does actually look like he gives a shit.

One of the first to congratulate Gouffran and also had a beaming smile on his face walking off. He also looked proud as punch when he made that excellent block right in front of goal.

His resurgence has been a massive relief, tbh, cos we've got fuck all else in that position.

Nah its not its that he allows himself an extra yard or two instead of thinking he can make runs forward and recover.... he's realised in this league he doesn't have the pace to allow defenders to have a yard on him and recover.

He also doesn't get himself involved in too many foot races. He'll put in a challenge before the man gets to full pace, very refreshing compared to old Daniel. But like I say, this sometimes leads to freekicks/yellow cards.

Honestly can't believe anyone thought he wouldn't come good.

:anguish: :anguish:

What's that for like? That's my honest opinion. He's an energetic, positive fullback who we were (nearly) all ecstatic to sign. Then we did our usual thing of absolutely hammering him for a dip in form.

A dip? He was a liability for a long period of time and almost 11 months later were finally seeing the kind of player we paid quite a lot for.

It's about f***ing time a full French international FB in his peak years puts in these kind of performances, he should have been like this from near enough the start. He's not a kid and didn't deserve to be treated like one.

He's not a child no, but the player was put in an unfortunate situation to try and adjust when he arrived last season. He and many other players who had never played in the country before were thrown into a team with no chemistry or confidence that frankly was teetering on the brink of collapse. The delay is understandable. The first few matches of this season were worrisome, but he has turned himself around since his collapse against Hull. Now we sit and look at what he can accomplish. There is no reason he can't be a big player for NUFC, but his weaknesses have been exposed before.

I've given Debuchy a hard time since he joined as not seen enough from him but of late he's really put in some decent shifts. Some of the blocks and sweeping in behind to cover for the centre backs was class.

If we keep getting these performances from him then we are in for a treat.
