Dr Venkman
Such a bad performance. Sick of this 'style' of football. Just don't think that Ba and Cisse works very well in a 442. Thank god for Ben Arfa, pretty much carrying the team at times. For about the millionth time, we played 442 for about 20 mins and swiftly changed it. Maybe the players have to be more accountable for some of their lethargic performances. We played 4-4-2 until Simpson came off, so that would be 38 minutes, pretty much the first half. We persevered with 2 up top for 90 minutes though, and it didn't work for a fraction of that time.
junkhead
Drop Demba for Marveaux at Goodison. If we go there with our current attitude and line up, we'll get bashed. Papiss has looked more complacent of the two.
NEEJ
Krul at the end of the second half, when Santon was in acres of space, hoofing it upfield to Cisse with a clearly bigger, stronger centre-half up his arse. Infuriating. I thought Cabaye was utter dogshit, and Gutierrez maybe even pipped him in the dogshit stakes. Cisse and Ba might as well have not turned up. In fact, I don't think they did. Also, Steven Taylor is an absolute nutcase, in case we all needed reminding.
Dr Colossus
Disappointing etc. Any time Villa got into the game it seemed to be because we let them, their goal came against the general run of play in the first 20-odd minutes. Ba and Cisse not looking like scoring, both ending up playing with their back to goal a lot with us playing it long, particularly second half. Pardew too late with substitutions imo as well. Anyway I'll try not to be a misery and tread over points which people probably have well covered before. Santon had a really good game. Anita played very well at right back (I'm not a Simpson-scapegoater but he looked better than him.) Bigirimana grew into the game really well after he came on, a little few shakes aside (made an important block from a Bent shot). Ben Arfa. Hatem. Fucking awesome, by far our best (often only) attacking threat/outlet, even if it got a little "pass to Will" at times. Thank god he's started the season with this form, what with the Dembas looking how they are. When he dragged that shot wide with his right before he scored I remember saying "bit of an odd decision to shoot from there on your weaker foot". Egg in my face. Jack Flash
Jonas was my MOTM. His running and tackling was priceless as they controlled the midfield from the start. His performance allowed Cabaye to hide again. Anita was a breath of fresh air in that he was a full back who got to their byline a few times. Santon was dangerous early on but was nowhere in the second half. Thought Bigi would have been even more overwhelmed than he has looked in the past but he was exactly what we needed, a calm head and his block at the end was a point winner. AND THE AIMLESS HOOFING FROM KRUL HASN'T EVER WORKED. EVER.
gbandit
Drop Demba for Marveaux at Goodison. If we go there with our current attitude and line up, we'll get bashed. I would be up for that actually. Junkhead mentions below that cisse has been more complacent and he has but I would definitely drop Ba before cisse. Having Marv on one side and Ben arfa on the other could be devastating

Thought Jonas was one of our worst in the first half like. Held onto the ball far longer than he should have and gave it away more often than not. Hanshithispantz
I think people are being unfair on Villa like, not just here but on Facebook and such too, you'd think they were a fucking League 2 team or something the way people are going on. They were turgid last year and have started the season (results wise) pretty poorly, but it's a bit early to start labeling them as the Premiership's shittest team. Jack Flash
Cisse's shot that hit the heel of the keeper would have gone in last season. 3 Inches away from a goal.
Tiresias
Villa were decent but we're going to face a lot of better teams
LoveItIfWeBeatU
The game was very end to end. It could easily have gone either way. I hope Cisse, Ba and Cabaye are up to speed by the Everton game. Ba and Cisse aren't very good at holding the ball up. We could have done with a 20 minute Shola super sub appearance. Hopefully Shola and Tiote will both be back for the Everton game.
NEEJ
I think people are being unfair on Villa like, not just here but on Facebook and such too, you'd think they were a f***ing League 2 team or something the way people are going on. I thought they pressed us very well early on and we shit ourselves. We couldn't get out our own half at times and sat way too deep.
Jordan
Cabaye is so obviously not fit. Needs dropping until he can get his levels back up. Obertan put in another good shift, let it continue.
Dr Colossus
Forgot to mention Krul's hoofing. At one point all the players were gathered on the right and he belted it to the left for their centre half to deal with. Cabaye as well, ran around somewhat aimleslly trying to cover all the time, and when we had the ball he wasn't on it anywhere near enough. Should be dictating our passing and controlling the game, instead he was hardly in it. Decent free kick at the end, mind. Delivery from corners particularly woeful as well, barely remember them clearing the first man, both Cabaye and HBA. Didn't think Villa looked that bad, although there are a lot of improved teams this season.

Tiotes Witch Doctor
Cabaye is so obviously not fit. Needs dropping until he can get his levels back up. Obertan put in another good shift, let it continue. Was only on 5 minutes
Ghandis Flip-Flop
Thought the officials were absolutely shocking today. The number of times they allowed their backline to consistently foul without penalty really annoyed me. It's not surprising that Jonas lost his rag and dragged that lad back for his booking as he'd just been blatently fouled twice on the edge of Villa's box. The fact that the bookings came their way in the last ten minutes was a pisstake too. Having said that it was another disjointed performance from us with seemingly no actual attacking threat apart from Ben Arfa. Just hoping we are starting slowly like last year.....although I think a few players are playing like they know they're guaranteed a place as long as they're fit. Cabaye, Ba and Cisse appear really complacent and disinterested at the minute. I hope it's just while they're getting up to speed match fitness wise. Sifu
All in all, we were basically outclassed by Villa imo (urgh). They pretty much did all the simple things right whilst we kept getting them wrong. Our set pieces were atrocious, our movement off the ball was basically non-existent and our general all round play was shocking. Again, we did have a better second half compared to the first but ultimately we just didn't have enough about ourselves to really dominate the game. A draw is probably a fair result but Villa will probably wonder how they didn't win. The only bright spot for me was again Ben Arfa - when we needed something special to ignite the game and to pull ourselves up from the dumps, Hatem was there again to oblige yet again The formation issue has been talked about a lot and it is the same argument over and over again so I won't go into it in too much detail. 4-3-3, enough said. Btw, people have to remember that we're only 3 PL games into the season, it's been a stuttering start but it's still too early to judge on how our season will pan out. Of course, we are faced with a fair few worrying issues atm but in time, I'm sure things will be fine. I'm not too worried yet - we'll hit our stride eventually. Obertan put in another good shift, let it continue. Was only on 5 minutes Did the right things again though, I see what he means. Had the beating of his man and looked to cross instead of coming inside and fannying on. Fuck this, I've tried to be positive and it's ended with me futilely trying to praise a 5-minute Obertan cameo.

Pilko
Dunno if it's just me who thinks this, but the last 20-25 minutes of this game were absolutely desperate for Shola.

Jack Flash
Dunno if it's just me who thinks this, but the last 20-25 minutes of this game were absolutely desperate for Shola. Aye. The continual hoofing from Krul would have made sense if he was on the pitch. Ba and Cisse aren't target men at all.
