Mick
don't know what to say. you're aware Santon is a fantastic right wingback? He's the same on the left as he is on the right.
Guest tollemache
He's bloody not. He's very good at both but he's a totally different proposition on the left with the way he cuts inside

Geordie Ahmed
Really looking forward to January as I think we'll be pretty active. Remy in / Ba out is a great piece of business considering the enormous problems we've had accommodating 9 and 19 along with Ba's knee of Damocles. He's exactly the kind of player you want to sell in his prime because his value will plummet like hell at the first sign of decline. Debuchy is obviously a great player but I'd like to hear talk of a left back. I'd love to see Santon over on the right where he can really let rip. Just a thought but Debuchy is a very capable centre-half (as well as being ok in midfield if required)... Not sure to what extent he's any enthusiasm for playing there but I'm told he's very good at it. I'm about to go and check but if there isn't a transfer window thread there really should be... Lots of rumours and comments will fly about BUT I would be shocked if we sign more than 1 player. Pardew has already told us as much, expecting more than that is just optimism of the highest order
Yorkie
Newcastle striker Demba Ba faces fine as Newcastle close in on a transfer window move for Marseille forward Loïc Rémy Newcastle could fine Demba Ba for giving an interview in which he admitted he was interested in a move to Arsenal Newcastle are far from happy with the Senegal international, who made his comments on French television, and Pardew will discuss with managing director Derek Llambias what action to take. Guest Roy the Irish Magpie
Any hopes you have of us signing more than one player in January, kill them now! Are you forgetting who the owner of our beloved club is? There is more of a chance of Friday actually being the end of the world than Ashley splashing enough cash. Guest Tyson
I've noticed the talk about his strength in the air. Is the source of this based on highlight reel footage? From what i've been able to guage, is that he attacks the ball well (and gets some some purchase at contact), and he knows how to slip a man. Well taken headers, but bread & butter chances nonetheless. And he's also profiteering on some quality service (balls whipped in, with pace). Transition play is alot quicker too, so he's taking advantage of midfielders being caught-out and has space afforded to him off-the-ball (to attack goal). To survive aerially in attack (exclusively at Newcastle, under Pardew) a different skillset is required to deal with the floated crosses from the right & the punts from the back. Size & heart are needed to wrestle with centrehalves for most of ninety minutes. As seen re-Cisse (who for me is like an African version of Inzaghi) this year - for technique-oriented ball-players, particularly those who specialise in crafty movement off-the-ball, to make some sort of positive impact... that's a big ask. bowlingcrofty
If signing a CB isn't our number 1 priority by a country mile then it shows a staggering lack of understanding our current squad by Pardew. We should be doing all we can to ensure someone like Douglas comes through the door on 1st Jan.
Miercoles
Surprised so many people are okay with selling the only player who's scoring any goals for us. I think the next top scorer is Ben Arfa with 3. I understand the reasoning to letting him go, but I am just not confident that Cisse or anyone we might bring in ( wait a second, what am I thinking, bringing players in, that's a good one) will be able to pick up the slack. And we're already so abysmal... The thought of letting our only goalscorer go when we have no midfield and no defense just plain terrifies me. Personally I would much rather see some defensive players come in.
ExiledGeordie
Yeah we're weak as piss at the back so even if Remy did bring something different to the attack and plug the gap should Ba leave we'll still be going into the 2nd half of the season struggling. Desperately need reinforcements to sure things up at the back.
SteveMc
Think people are resigned to demba leaving rather than happy. Though i'd love us to hold on to demba i think that remy as a replacement is a relative coup. Particularly given the range of alternative scenarios. Dave
Luke Edwards has been shit-stirring about Ba for ages tbh. All of the summer. You make Edwards sound like some scheming spin doctor on a mission. Fair play to him if he has somehow also managed to manipulate Demba into his latest interview, but I think that Ba and his camp being the 'brains' behind the constant drip feed of non committal want-away hints is the more likely angle. /Hope the kidda stays mind, we need him. Eh? I'm saying Edwards is clearly going to town on this, as he has been doing for ages. As I said, he had Ba as definitely leaving in the summer too, that was really accurate. Guest Roger Kint
So our one signing is looking like a forward despite our unbelievable need for a CB. Makes sense to me. It does if the Remy deal allegedly includes a makeweight(or deadweight in Obertans case) then he clearly said one in plus replacements. Not that what he actually says means fuck all given its Pardew in the media but as people keep misquoting it its worth mentioning.
GuyP
It would be amazing if we shifted Obertan in that deal Mentally, with a change in system, i see it as replacing Ba with Remy. Problem then is that we only really have 2 African international strikers...Id be happy if we got in a young striker to learn (a la Rhodes before he left Huddersfield) but we definitely need a body in there, or need to start blooding Adam Campbell sooner rather than later!) Defence-wise, i see where this is the new body coming in (if Remy is the 1 in, 1 out). Im mildly ok at seeing Simpson as right back, where as id be apoplectic at seeing Williamson continuing to get games, even as back up...
Guest Roger Kint
I wouldnt put it past Ashley to accept a cut price deal on Simpson rather than lose him for free tbh.
nufc4eva
Our absolute top priority should be a centre half to play with Colo with a Winger/Right Back next priority

Perch can play there = no replacement. Aye sorry thats what i meant in response to GuyP saying hes mildly ok with Simpson. Regardless of any outgoings i can only see a cheap CB coming in(ie Douglas or whoever is out of contract this summer) especially if theres any truth in Remy. Incognito
Maybe we could try Perch on the left of a front 3. Saves pounds.

Pardew is a gobshite but come on ffs we have been trying to get him to sign a contract(ie keep him longterm) so forcing him out is the opposite of Ashleys policy
Skirge
I think Pards has no choice really, Redknap told the world so what's the point of trying to pretend otherwise. Ba is using us as a stepping stone he's not the first and won't be the last, we took a gamble over the knee issue as he was free, he wanted the get out of jail bollocks as he has always wanted "big wages". Pissed me off more when Pards was banging on about how its not money for Demba but more about feeling loved. This season the system has been about keeping him happy, a player who is not willing to pledge his future to us and would rather his people touted him about alover. Lets just play to Cisse's strengths from now on and Demba cab get inline or fuck off.

This wouldnt be a story without Saggychops doing his usual tricks, his advisors also shoulder the blame for touting him everywhere since mind, dont particularly blame Ba for wanting to better himself but not by talking about it like he has.
