loki679
I must admit like, I've read this thread through gritted teeth in the past as I don't see what others see in him. Sure, he may not of been given a fair chance, but he's shown nothing to suggest he's a particularly good footballer in my opinion. Poor in the air, struggles with 1 on 1s, quite weak in the challenge. He's better than Taylor like, but I actually prefer Williamson and Colo at CB. If we can ship him out and REPLACE him with a better player, then I'm not too fussed. Agree. You never know who will make the step up and who won't. Centre backs who aren't that physical really tend to struggle with the Premier League - he was always a very risky signing and it's turned out to be a very poor call from Carr. And it's quite common to move players out wide from the centre when they're new to the league - it lets them adjust to the pace of the game but any mistakes are less likely to be costly, and it's better than not being in the team at all. Robson gave Taylor his debut at right back and he played Bassedas and Viana out wide as well. He's had 18 months and he's been a flop. Time to move on. Taylor, Bassedas amd Viana, eh? Works a treat, that does then.

ponsaelius
That's absolute bollocks that new CBs are regularly shunted wide like. Basically the only example given is Bobby did it with Taylor.

It makes you wonder why Mike won't let Pardew have more say in which players we buy since he clearly has a much better grasp of English football than Carr. Keefaz
Probably needs games but we're not in a position to give him games. But then we're not in a position, really, to loan him out to get pitch time.
Mole_Toonfan
He was fine everytime he actually played in his position last season alongside Williamson. But nah lets judge him playing out of position
LRD
Think people are reading too much into pre-season friendlies, especially with an experimental formation and players today.

Mole_Toonfan
Whether you rate him or not, surely you rate him above the trash defenders we have? That's the thing here, if we had good defenders I'd kinda understand it but he's the last person we should be selling.

Guest neesy111
You've got to look at the CB's as a partnership, the best partnership we had was Williamson next to Mapou last season based on the goals conceded during this time. Their games complement each other. You don't pick to CB's who are exactly the same, that is what we get with Taylor next to Williamson.
AyeDubbleYoo
edit: by steady, I mean keeping a calm head, reading the game well etc. They were exactly his biggest strengths before he signed for us.
Mole_Toonfan
He already proved himself to be a good premier league defender. Our best run of form came with him at CB. Not his fault he's been given so few chances, as I said 2 losses in 9 starts at CB last season. But I suppose we should prefer championship standard Williamson and Taylor plus passed it Coloccini. Ashley17
Didn't we look at this the other night and decide Williamson & MYM played 3 games at centre half together? Not sure where 2 months is coming from.
Ronaldo
He already proved himself to be a good premier league defender. Our best run of form came with him at CB. He absolutely has not, and you know it. And no it didn't.
Mole_Toonfan
He reads the game as well as anyone we have at CB anyway. Although not hard all things considered.

Flip
Mbiwa is the last defender we should be looking to off-load. Actually we should be looking to build a partnership with him and a new physical defender that does what Williamson does well + ability to pass the god damn ball like a normal person. Mole_Toonfan
I can name 5 good performances alongside Williamson we had last season. Beat Spurs, beat Chelsea, Beat Hull away, draw with Liverpool ( I know he got sent off but was hardly his fault with Tiote playing everyone onside, didn't look like scoring up to that point) and City in the cup which we should have won, falling in extra time. Not enough to suggest he's worth persisting with apparently, the only time he really disappointed at CB last season was Everton away. Meanwhile I couldn't count on two hands the amount of times the other defenders have disappointed.

Ronaldo
I rate him very much in terms of potential. Mole needn't tell fibs to advocate his promotion to the starting spots.
