Remi Garde in talks with Newcastle

GFFN can confirm that Newcastle have initiated discussions with Remi Garde for the vacant managerial position at the club.

Garde is believed to have been contacted last week and discussions have already been ongoing for the last two days.

Remi Garde is interested in the possibility of taking up the job, but there remains a chance, out of his control, that Newcastle decide to go with another candidate.

These reports are now supported by L’Équipe and Le Parisien.

I'd say Garde is very attack minded coach. His main formation is 4-3-1-2, with a 'diamond' midfield, he loves the good old fashion number 10 (Grenier-Gourcuff in his time at Lyon), also plays with a 'regista' in front of the defence, a technical player who can start the build-up (Gonalons). One of the characteristics of his tactics is that fullbacks are massively involved in attacks and general play. They usually have the most touches per game and most of the assists of the season. He's also very good with youngsters, he acts as paternal figure but as proved to be very tough when needed. We all know Lyon academy his one the best in Europe, but he built a team with 6 or 7 players from the academy, apart from Ajax I've never seen such prowess, you gotta have some great management skills as well as authority, especially with the kids of nowadays.

Everyone agrees that Lyon's results this year have the print of Garde all over them, same formation, tactics and philosophy. 2nd in the league and 40 goals scored. Lacazette, Fekir, Tolisso, Ferri,Umtiti, Benzia, Grenier etc. are all players from the academy that have debuted under Garde.

Well he certainly fits the job profile. Why is he out of work?

Imagine we actually had someone with the potential to not be a total cunt or bang average, with half an idea how to develop players and tactically sound.

Still a risk appointing anyone but not having yet another mediocre British manager would be a god send for a while.

Too good to be true, will be Carver boooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Does he know the league though lads? Ligue 1, cup wins and the Champions League aren't the same as 12th place in the Barclays Premier League. Has he got what it takes, you know, because he is French?

Now if he'd maybe relegated a few teams, clogged around your coastal minnows or mid-England yo-yo teams, then I'd be more impressed by his credentials.

I worry he won't know how to play long ball football and deliver at Stoke on a cold night. He will come here with his fancy dan ideas of passing, movement, being tactically sound and not ostracising players of ability when we will crave Williamson, Dummet, Colback and Gouffran.
