You are forgetting how much carr is listend to these days

That could be a factor tbf, but he's the chief scout, not the DoF, so it's very doubtful whether he would actually have a voice in the process of assigning a new manager.

Not really blind hope like, he's only appointed 5 managers and our recruitment policy, personnel and quite a few other things have changed considerably of late.

5 out of 5 were English, cheap and mediocre (with the possible exception of KK, but he had been out of the game for jonks). It's not beyond the reals of possibility that he would be more adventurous, but neither is it likely. Put it this way, we are far more likely to end up with a Steve Bruce or Martin O'Neill than we are to land your Philippe Montanier, Roberto Martinez or Frank de Boer.

No we're not far more likely to get one of them, that's just your opinion. Our last managerial appointment was in December 2010, months after we'd been promoted after Ashley had to give up on selling the club for the last time and a month before the Andy Carroll sale which massively accelerated our change in personnel to highly rated, more technical players. There isn't enough evidence to judge that they'll never appoint a better or foreign manager, not now that they've started getting things right in other areas.

You could have said in May 2011 that they'll never sign a Senegalese striker because they never have done before, and you'd have been proven wrong twice in the next 8 months.

Let's have a look at the managers Ashley has appointed since he took owenership of the club:

Keegan: English manager with a good pedigree, who had been out of the game and with strong ties to the club. Undermined by his DoF approach. Constructively dismissed to be replaced by...

Kinnear: English manager without any pedigree to speak off, who had been out of the game. Enough said. Replaced mid season due to health reasons by...

Shearer: emergency replacement. English manager without any relevant experience, and with strong ties to the club. Promised a long contract only to be denied the opportunity to be replaced by...

Hughton: promoted from within. English manager without pedigree. Did decent enough, only to be replaced by...

Pardew: English manager with decent pedigree at best, whose career had taken a plunge. Cheap. Has overachieved in one season, underachived the next

Looking at this track record, what makes people think he would appoint anything other than a cheap, mediocre, English manager if he decides to sack Pardew? Blind hope is what.

KK and Kinnear were recommended to him by SJH and Llambias - in short men others championed to him.

Shearer was his decision, one last throw at the dice. It showed balls, but it didn't work.

Hughton was a no brainer really. I think following relegation the club struggled to find someone to take over and after a good start by Hughton, they simply decided to keep him because it was the sensible and best option and it worked with promotion at a canter.

Pardew was another recommendation, again from Llambias.

In the appointment of Shearer, I think Ashley showed he could think outside of the box, take a risk and look at things differently. I'd be happy for Ashley to think along the same lines again rather than be influenced by people with agendas. Llambias knew Kinnear and Pardew very well from his days as a casino manager/West Ham fan. Those guys got the job because they were palls of Llambias not because they tickled Ashley's fancy.

Shearer tickled Ashley's fancy and perhaps KK to an extent, although those two in particular went spectacularly wrong which probably means we'll always see someone appointed who comes heavily recommended by those Ashley tends to trust most, namely Llambias and Carr.

I doubt Carr is someone to recommend managers so that leaves Llambias. A man whose football knowledge is only second to Ashley's and someone who will always have his own agendas.

In short, I don't think we would appoint anyone special either. It will be another cheap, out of work, former associate/pal who gets the job.

That and the likes of Sissoko who looked a beast the first few weeks he was here, now looking more like a f***ing chicken. Pardew's negative ways effecting their game and with it our game.

You seriously blaming Pardew for his lack of form due to Pardew's negative way? Sissoko did well to look a 'beast' in the first place in an unfamiliar position and a new league to contend with. Pardew's answer to his demise was to play him right wing against Liverpool, that was his clueless part. Pardew should at least take some of the praise for having the sense to play him in an advanced role which massively helped us gain wins against Villa and Chelsea. Unfortunately this form then wasn't sustained as clubs became a lot more familiar with him and he wasn't the surprise package anymore so obviously other managers would pick up on his glaring attacking weaknesses, Pardew just didn't have the sense to look and change this. Either a)drop him or b) play him in his preferred position.

Pardew didn't have him playing as a number 10, he had him in CM, Sissoko only ended up in that kind of role/position because the game was becoming stretched and he was released from his shackles and getting more space and freedom to run forwards and get at the opposition. First half against Chelsea stuck in CM he was running into traffic constantly. Only Pardew would claim he turned Sissoko into a number 10 or rather that he deserves the credit for it.

Nonsense. Sissoko has played behind Cisse for the majority of games since he arrived. Cabaye/Tiote/Anita/Perch, have mainly all been behind him. Sissoko has then reverted deeper in a few games once we've already been rolled over in the latter stages.

Has he fuck, he's either been in CM or out wide. In fact he's pretty much never had a cemented position for the 90 since joining because the manager is clueless as to how best utilise him. Often he finds himself simply playing where he wants, without direction or effectiveness.

well foreign players are usually cheaper, the same could be said for foreign managers.  Marque foreign names such as Benitez and such are obviously expensive and out of our range.

managers such as Pochettino and Laudrup would not be on considerable higher wages than Pardew, if anything they could be on even lower.  But then again they are still very much unproven in the prem.

not that im saying we should go and try to sign them now, the boat has sailed for those two.

Going back to the discussion before on managers that have earned their stripes, I don't think there is one in the whole English league you could point to and say, he's a manager you can set your watch to.

Say Ashley was interested in taking someone cheap, that has been showing good form in the lower leagues, the only ones that have been in a job long enough to judge (over a year) are...

Paul Tisdale

Greg Abbott

Chris Wilder

Nigel Clough

Roberto Martínez

Gus Poyet

Mark Yates

Russell Slade

Karl Robinson

Graham Turner

Tony Mowbray

Dean Smith

Darren Ferguson

Chris Powell

Micky Adams

Jim Bentley

A fucking piss poor selection.

Beardsley in a talk in once said if Carr told Ashley to go fuck himself...

The only way Carr would get involved would be is if Ashley asked him for advice on a manager and even then who is to say Carr would have the first clue as to who to appoint! He's a scout of players, not of managers.

Not even remotely comparable..

The first part of your post has some meritt. Maybe his entire approach to the club has changed. It would take a massive shift however to release Pardew so soon into his 8 year "stability is key" contract to replace him with a continental manager, which is what most people apparently want due to the lack of suitable UK candidates. I just think they will see it as too much of a risk and aren't willing to lose face by going back on their new approach so soon. Surely you can see that too?

The problem is every top job has been going to a manager from the same list of about 6 or 7. Sunderland employed O'Neill FFS, proven as nothing special.

In general owners do not have a clue who should be their manager.

I'm not sure if it was you or Bimpy that was throwing around the 'you simply don't watch the games properly' accusations. But, if you haven't noticed that he has persistently been playing as near enough a second striker, then your head needs a shake. I don't know how this can be disputed, to be honest. I think he played right wing against Liverpool, and perhaps one game further back, but that's it.

There have definitely been games where Sissoko has played off the striker for practically the whole 90 minutes, particularly when he first arrived.

Against Chelsea he started out in CM, ended up further forward and then out wide. Basically that's how I've seen him play since he arrived, in no real set position. I genuinely think the manager got carried away with his performance against Chelsea and dreamed up the number 10 role for him when in reality he wasn't playing that role at all much less is capable of playing it. Since then his form has been awful and he's looked like a poor player at times.

True, I think it came out of desperation for someone who could turn our fortunes around. It nearly worked I suppose. I'm sure longer-term Pardew will use Sissoko in CM.

Not wanting to change the awful manager our of fear it could be worse is just plain stupid.

Fear

Making decisions based on fear.

Yeah, this is the very same reason Pardew is a terrible manager.

I agree. He's a CM for me all day long. Someone when the game is stretched and opposition are tired, can burst forward from midfield to pop up with goals or to give us extra numbers up top. I don't think he has the awareness and passing skills to really dominate from CM from the off though. He's a bit dumb in that respect, a bit like Tiote. That's why for me we have to decide what to do with Tiote.

Difference being the style of football and the prospects for Laudrup which look far more promising than Pardew's whose track record is literally league one/championship stuff at best.
