Jack Flash
the Toon boss said: “You have to look over the period of 18 months that I’ve been here. I think we have spent very well and wisely. Mike Ashley “You could argue that we should have gone out and spent (more) money on players, but then if it didn’t work out that would have been a bigger criticism. We spent the money wisely and I think our fans should be thankful for that. “Graham Carr did a tremendous job in targeting players and we have done our best to develop the ones we already have, and we think there are one or two at the club that the fans haven’t seen yet. “They haven’t seen Sammy Ameobi this season or much of Romain Amalfitano. Cheick Tiote has hardly played. “So I think we should be thankful for what we’ve got. We have a competitive squad. “I have no problem with these radio debate shows, I really don’t. “I do think they tend to lean on the negative rather than the positive. “You have to look at the bigger picture. “We had a fantastic season last year and this time we’ve had two European games and two international breaks; the season hasn’t really got going. “There has been this talk because, in my view, the fans have had some time on their hands. “Now we have a run of games and I think we’ll prove that we are a good side.” Also from a year ago. Dave
Feel sorry for him. Has been completely undermined and left with a bang average squad but will obviously still be the focal point for the majority of abuse. If he had any semblance of integrity and professional pride then he'd perhaps have a little of my respect. But he doesn't.
Guest
A manager with any credibility would resign after this summer. If he resigned on principle he'd never get a squad like he has now ever again. Why on earth would he walk.

Tiresias
Clearly has no trust from owner, wonder if Ashley led him on assuring him there would be signings. Kinnear is not here to get signings he's just waiting to take over, will be doing in a few months time. While Ashley is in charge this club will never have any ambition
Chris_R
Feel sorry for him. I do too, actually. I mean he's a shit manager, but he's not being backed by the board either. But I'll stop feeling sorry for him the very instant he opens his mouth and defends this summer's transfer dealings. Which he will do, because he's a fucking spineless prat. If he had any semblance of integrity and professional pride then he'd perhaps have a little of my respect. But he doesn't. I'm sure he has both integrity and professional pride. He'll have been begging for strength in depth, of that I'm sure. Yet again though, he'll be forced to come out and put a positive spin on Ashley's disastrous efforts. If, like others, your suggesting he should resign....nar. Would prove absolutely nothing and leave us even deeper in the shit.

Wullie
He's been backed by the board exactly as much as he was told he would be when he took Chris Hughton's job.

Wil
He'll be coming out, quite aggressively as he does, facing down any searching questions. There will be no respect at all for the real concerns of the fans. He'll "protect the club". It's part of his remit, and a good part of what he's paid for. The whole thing has become a rather sickening spectacle.

TooonDoom
I don't think pardew will be too bothered regarding the lack of transfers. It puts him in a no lose situation. He has the perfect excuse ready if things go bad. If we do ok he can take all the credit. In terms of the power struggle between him and JFK he's just scored a good few points with JFK failing so badly. He's been setting him up for failure all summer by reiterating that jfks only job is to get the players signed that he and/or Carr identify.

Its an awful situation and its only going to get worse
quayside
He can't win. Says he's disappointed at lack of signings = "excuses" thread material + potentially he undermines the squad we do have. Stuy_O
A manager with any credibility would resign after this summer. which is ashleys plan why should pardew let him win by giving him what he wants when he can continue to do his job and if ashley wants him out let him pay him off in full This is it. The situation is so ridiculous now where Pardew wont quit knowing that's what Ashley wants and at the same time Ashley wont sack him.
