Based on other events - teams lost all points gained in games where they fielded an illegible player (so minus 1pt from the Southampton tie) and a team was also deducted 1pt for fielding an illegible player in a game that they lost (so minus another 3 points).

Which would put them on 21 points :D

How the hell can they not have a points deduction? At the very least it should be the point gained in that time. Premier League opening themselves up big time to court action if sunderland finish 17th 1 point or goal difference ahead of somebody.

FFS lads, they could deduct us 10 points, it makes no difference. We're down regardless  :)

True, this would be like a dog pissing on an unconscious tramp, still though if you hate the tramp......

They'll just informally instruct the referees to ensure that they go down to avoid any potentially embarrassing legal entanglements from other stragglers.

Bad decisions coming their way. Very fucking Machiavellian. :)

Just read this..... eeesh!

Worth remembering that Margaret Byrne sits on the board of the FA Council, she represents the Premier League on that board.

From the outside looking in, it could appear that she is using her influence on that board to try and sweep this under the carpet. Don't think we've heard the last of this.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1265392/Hartlepool-plead-innocence-Brighton-boss-Gus-Poyet-demands-points-deduction-fielding-suspended-Gary-Liddle.html

Poyet told his club's official website, www.seagulls.co.uk: 'I am sure Hartlepool did not realise he was suspended. It was not a case of cheating, but they made a mistake and that player should not have been on the pitch so the three points should go to the opposition.
