Having watched Dost's highlights, I do love his enthusiasm. Loves scoring goals he does.

Both he and Austin look like penalty box specialists though, and so I am hoping we are planning on magicianing some creativity from somewhere.

Thauvin maybe?

Yup, maybe even Wijnaldum as well.

It's less about being a target man and more about first touch and awareness. The list of players you mention there all possess these two traits, which enables the team to play off them.

That would mean nothing if they were weak and couldn't fend off defenders.

They don't need to fend them off if the ball isn't lumped at them from 80 yards.

You're clueless.

Am I now

So you're saying it's not possible to win football matches without the presence of a large striker, regardless of his other abilities?

Of course you're clueless. You're asking me a silly question. It's easier to win football matches with footballers with all-round skill packages. Generally, having strikers with strength, the ability to fend off defenders and combine well with their team-mates - will do better. Whether that's Messi or Zlatan.

No, no.

My point was that having a high quality first touch and sense of awareness was the most important thing about hold up play. You then claimed it was more about being big, strong, and able to fend off defenders.

Don't try and twist the narrative so it looks like we're arguing from two sides of the same coin.

Seems a few are fretting already about the lack of activity thus far, no need imo.

Club are clearly looking at players and whilst not completely defending Liar Charnley's time at the club so far he did manage to oversee the signings of Jaanmat, Cabella, De Jong, Perez last summer.  Albeit it wasn't an amazing window the club demonstrated at least they can pull signings off.

I think players will come through the door and I think there will be activity.  Let's just hope when they do they are of the genuine quality that we need.

Is signing players not just one of the most basic requirements of his job?

Of course, aye.  I just don't think with over 2 weeks to go until the start of pre-season its time to panic about the lack of tangible activity

That might change like

The amount of signings and sales we need should and would make any other club act really quickly. That and with the absolute disaster of last season would make most clubs also act quickly and get a bit of positivity amongst fans.

Plus we have been here before, pretty much every year someone says it's only early or give them time, and every single transfer window we fail.

Lazio linked with Thauvin for €10-12 in Corriere alongside Valencia, Spurs and us with an expectation of news in the next 48 hours.

No chance we will ever pay that much after missing out on him for a quarter of that at most.

We've a managing director whos decided not to bother in cups, so we'd not get injuries for the premier league. Ignoring the potential risks of discouraging an entire fan base, demoralizing everyone around the club, having players who see us only as a stepping stone & pressure on absolutely everybody. But we might have saved an injury.

Hey Pards has left, lets not bother with a manager for half a season, what could go wrong. OH nearly relegated.

These people are in charge of working out the risks of not acting quickly & making decisions that would appease a discouraged fanbase.

Honestly step one would be get Charlie Austin. A proper potential England number 9 at Newcastle as cliche as it is, could not be a more obvious right decision.

totally agree on that. I know 15mil is steep for a player in the late stages of a contract but it would just give everyone involved in the club a huge lift. If we're still fucking around after the weeks go by I doubt we're gonna be grateful we didnt fork out the extra 6 mil QPR want.

At least they/we should have a plan A and try to go for it. Don't wait until everbody Else is finished shopping and pick up the leftovers as usual...

The usual case. It's funny how we have no trouble selling players though.

If people think we're going to change policy then think again.

I bet Charnley put out the feelers for Austin and got some sort of positive response from his agent about coming.  Then contacted the Mirror giving the impression "look at me! Aren't I doing well" vibe.

When it comes to crunch time, this little prick will come up well short yet again.

I'm personally sick of us looking at players or monitoring players. We need to try actually buying the fuckers. It's as if we just start looking after season despite apparently scouting all the time

 yeah but it will probably be like this for many many more hours. Once something finally happens and we think we're close the news of haggling haggling fucking comes like an avalanche and someone else moves in and signs the player for a few £ more. Must use the money wisely :)

Even though nothing will change to the degree i/we want i'm still wasting my fucking time following stuff everywhere

Why am i doing this to myself. I was away for a couple of months during last season and didn't spend any time at all following Newcastle. God i felt so good and positive every day!
