The College Dropout Posted July 9, 2015 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Tiote's "wayward passing" is a bit of a myth. His pass completion rates are very high. His problem is he takes too long on the ball and only passes sideways. He tries to do too much on and off the ball. He usually has the ball more than anyone else in the midfield. Which is why he has a higher success rate on passes. Most of them are as you say short sideway passes. But when he tries something slightly more difficult it is nine times out of ten a wayward pass. He still mess up the simple ones quite often too. Still his pass success rates are around the 90%'s. It's because he's making twice the amount of passes as whoever he's next to that it might stick it. But % wise he looses the ball less than most of our other cm's. I do think oppo. are very tactical in their approach with him. Closing him down rapidly early doors when he's fannying about with it he might loose it and they can break. When in the lead or happy with the game, just let him have it. He'll not do anything useful with it. Although he has a decent cross on him. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I don't think a possession based approach suits us or the crowd. Our best teams, dominated at times but where always quick, powerful and attacking but never possession for the sake of it. Similar to Man Utd in that respect. It would take patience (which we don't have) or a top, top manager like LVG to change that. Man U did play a possession game, only it was very fast paced with lots of forward movement. A million miles from the deep sitting long ball game we've adopted under Pardew. Forget Pardew man. I'm talking Sir Bob & Keegan. Man Utd never "played a possession game". Never was keeping the ball for keeping the ball's sake a strategic maneuver. That's what they've got now under LVG. That was never the case under SAF. Tiote gets "fouled" a lot when he fannies on the ball. And he must make some passes under extreme pressure that don't help build a rhythm. But Tiote losing the ball often? Myth. Such a worthless stat to use It's not worthless when comparing players that mostly play it sideways in Tiote & Anita. And any decent forward thinking player still has really respectable pass completion. The one thing I like about henderson is that he tries ambitious passes. His ps% is 82%. Michael carrick is brilliant at 2 touch - instant forward passes. 89%. YoCabs 89%. 89% Mata. Fabregas 85%. Wijnaldum 83%. Sissoko 79%. Regardless of the type of pass. A good passer finds his man.
