The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Ancelotti to Brazil

Recommended Posts

The Italian has issued a heartfelt statement after a dramatic 24 hours, which saw Ranieri leave his post as Leicester manager.

“Yesterday my dream died,” the statement read.

After the euphoria of last season and being crowned Premier League Champions all I dreamt of was staying with Leicester City, the Club I love, for always.

Sadly this was not to be.

I wish to thank my wife Rosanna and all my family for their never ending support during my time at Leicester.

My thanks go to Paolo and Andrea who accompanied me on this wonderful journey. To Steve Kutner and Franco Granello for bringing me the opportunity to become a Champion.

Mostly I have to thank Leicester City Football Club. The adventure was amazing and will live with me forever.

Thank you to all the journalists and the media who came with us and enjoyed reporting on the greatest story in football.

My heartfelt thanks to everybody at the Club, all the players, the staff, everybody who was there and was part of what we achieved.

But mostly to the supporters. You took me into your hearts from day one and loved me. I love you too. No one can ever take away what we together have achieved, and I hope you think about it and smile every day the way I always will.

It was a time of wonderfulness and happiness that I will never forget. It's been a pleasure and an honour to be a Champion with all of you.

Claudio Ranieri

How do you fluke a league title?

Yeah I tried to make that point yesterday. They got some luck during the course of the season but to label it as a fluke really diminishes their unbelievable achievement.

The amount of referee decisions that went their way when it shouldn't, which according to some stats made them 10 points better off. The fact Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U and City were in a complete mess. It's a great achievement no doubt, but the chances of the circumstances aligning like that ever again are pretty low, therefore a fluke IMO.

It's not a fluke, it's an anomaly.

Just because it won't happen again doesn't mean it's a fluke. There was a considerable lot of skill to their title win and shouldn't be branded a fluke

Nothing is fluked over a 38 game campaign. As we didn't fluke 5th.

There have been some disgusting dismissals in recent years, but this one is a new level of disgraceful. Modern football at its very worst. It's sad to see supposed football fans defend the decision. Sky have drilled their audience well into believing football is merely a business in which EPL SOCCER comes before all else. Sad!

Momentum won them the league. Not Ranieri or the players.

It started well and just kept going. I rate Ranieri as a manager about as much as I rate Vardy as a striker. They are both average but contributed to an unforgettable season.

Sacking Ranieri is only a bad decision if they hire some chump, which they will.

The manager and the players were the ones that started and maintained that momentum so to say the managers and players didn't win them the league  and it was only 'momentum' is mental.

If Chelsea win the league is it only momentum that won them the league? Not an excellent manager that tweaked a system and got them cruising to the title? Or outstanding players in Kante, Hazard, Costa etc?

You don't fluke a league title win... and by 10 points as well! That's an absurd statement!

You can fluke a cup win, but not a league. Anyone stating otherwise is staggeringly ignorant of the mechanics that go into being the best team in the land over 38 games. 10 points is winning it at a canter.

Their win is a statistical and historical anomaly, but no fluke. And that's why it was all the more amazing.

I think we've proven otherwise

On the flipside, I think it's sad to see supposed football fans decrying a club for "getting too big for it's boots" every time a manager gets sacked. Sky have drilled their audience well into believing that some clubs are entitled to be successful and everyone else should know their place and stick to it. Sad!

It's all a matter of opinion end of the day.

Many online reactions to this are waaaay too OTT. It's not despicable, disgusting, the death of football etc. It's an unpopular but justifiable decision.

And there's lots of 'know your place, Leicester' from the press which is ridiculous.

Sad thing is, even if he won the Champions League and they went down, obviously from a fan's point of view it's great and you'd take it any day of the week but from a business point of view it's probably worse than going out and staying up,  Which is absurd, finishing 17th in the Premier League shouldn't be a better prize than winning the fucking Champions League from any perspective.
