He will do an Everton when he was there with them, he’s better suited to international football IMO. Obviously I’d love him here... but the I’d have Boris Johnson in charge of us over fucking cabbage head,

Yeah, I agree. They'll look great on the pitch but I just don't see him beating the guys at the top to that top 4. They'll be inconsistent results wise.

Rafa on the other hand would be right up going against the best if he had Kane, Son and Bale like they had this season. He'd have those average defenders performing much better and those three would provide more than enough going forward.

Wolves are closing in on the appointment of Bruno Lage to succeed Nuno Espirito Santo as manager.

No agreement has been reached with the Portuguese, 45, who left Benfica last June after 18 months in charge.

But Lage has flown to England for talks with Wolves chairman Jeff Shi and technical director Scott Sellars.

Fellow Portuguese Nuno left Wolves on Sunday after four years at Molineux, having re-established the club in the Premier League after promotion in 2018.

Lage was formerly assistant to Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea and was most recently in charge of Benfica, where he won the Portuguese title in 2019.

Powerful agent Jorge Mendes is understood to be involved. Wolves' parent company, Fosun, has a 20% stake in Mendes' Gestifute agency, which represents Lage and Nuno.

Not sure he’s the answer as well. Despite his very very good record there, he was struggling in the end to turn them from a top 4 position into a genuine title challenge, they were awful in the CL final too against an awful performance by LFC.

Scott Sellars is a technical director there? Didn’t know that. Would love to have someone who was part of our fun period back working in a position of influence in new era after MA.

who is this Lago guy?

Spurs going for Martinez while Rafa is sat at home is something else. And I actually like Martinez, but the way these clubs overlook Rafa is incredible.

If Martinez does return to club football, hopefully he doesn't take Jones with him

Martinez does not feel like a step up but I dunno how he's done with Belgium. Underachieved, is my default/uneducated/probably poor opinion.

Nah, he's definitely not done poor. Second best team in the last World Cup, only marginally behind France and got through qualifiers with ease

Definitely underachieved at Euro 2016. The last World Cup was probably the toss of a coin between France and Belgium quality wise and they just came up short.

Martinez was absolutely grim as Everton manager.

One decent season no?

Aye, finished 5th on his first season.

I'm sure Neil and other Everton fans will no doubt be able to elaborate, but his sides are absolutely shocking defensively. Once the solid foundations Moyes had built were eroded, he struggled.

Martinez wasn't Belgium manager at Euro 2016
