The Managerial Merry Go Round™

Could work out but I don’t see how they really kick on as long as the main objective of the organisation is global profit and merchandise. They’ve not changed since Van Gaal correctly identified that the actual football is of secondary importance.

You’d imagine there is also an element of transition coming up, although maybe underperformers will be re-engaged.

Portuguese league slightly pony but Mourinho certainly was, for a short period, the real thing; so eminently possible this guy can do it too.

You’re right re Mourinho of course - though he did win the UEFA Cup then the European Cup with Porto in successive seasons; an achievement no-one has come close to since when managing outside the ‘big five’ European leagues.

Surely West Ham are going to pull the trigger on J-Lo

Utterly dreadful

Was a baffling decision to appoint him considering the beef with Moyes was that he wasn’t progressive enough.

Did they just appoint him on name recognition? If they’d watched the tiniest bit of the football he’s plays they’d know he’s ultra negative.

Shows you can make (mostly) the right moves in the transfer market and still fuck things with the wrong manager.

Fullkrug continuing the proud tradition of buying flavour of the month European strikers that make zero impact. Good player but seemingly has turned into the German Wilson injury wise.

Ten Hag was a good appointment as well.

Who knows how these things will go.

The weirdest thing about the appointment is Ten Hag's Ajax team had a really strong identity and discernible playing style, and then he comes to Man Utd and does a Steve Bruce. It can't all have been the players doing it themselves at Ajax, surely?

Ten Hag was challenged about that. He said he didn't have the players to play the same style as he did at Ajax.

He did successfully implement a high press and our final third turnovers etc. were among the best in Europe. Not sure what his plan was for the gaping holes in midfield though.

Is that why his transfer policy was just to buy any player he’s previously worked with?

Looks to be a talented young manager, and a quality signing, but you just never know.

I rate that Michael Edwards at Liverpool very very highly. I thought it quite interesting that they spoke to Amorim first and opted against going for him, before then pivoting to Slot.

Not sure if the reason for why they chose not to go for him was ever reported, but it did seem strange.

Read somewhere Liverpool didn’t like how he had exclusively played a back 5.

Arne Slot looks a great modern coach.  Likes youth. Doesn’t mind focussing on coaching and tactics and leaving transfers up to others without complaint. Tactically flexible.

Edu leaving AFC belongs in here I guess.

Love to see it.

Could be good for Arsenal if they get a decent replacement. Couple of decent signings under his reign but otherwise spent an insane amount with many expensive duds while failing to move on flops. Selling Nketiah for £30m is probably his biggest accomplishment
