Dave
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastles-alan-pardew-headbutt-touchline-3231332 Alan Pardew has been handed the heaviest punishment ever dished out to a Premier League boss over his infamous headbutt of an opposition player - but is set to ban HIMSELF from the touchline for even longer. Newcastle manager Pardew was given a three-game stadium ban, banished from the touchline for an additional four matches and fined £60,000 after admitting improper conduct to an FA disciplinary hearing. Pardew's assault on Hull midfielder David Meyler has now cost him £160,000 in fines, including £100,000 from his employers, plus huge damage to his reputation. The 52-year-old will not be allowed to attend the Magpies' clash at Fulham this weekend, or the home games against Crystal Palace (March 22) and Everton (March 25). He can be in the stands but won't be allowed to communicate with his coaches for the games at Southampton (March 29) and Stoke (April 12), and home to Manchester United (April 5) and Swansea (April 19). When Pardew is eligible to fully take charge again, beginning at Arsenal on April 28, he will choose to stay in the stands for the start of games; and if he makes his way to the dug-out later in matches, he will stay seated and not prowl the pitch-side technical area. Pardew said: "As I have made clear, I deeply regret the incident and again wholeheartedly apologise to all parties for my conduct, which I understand was not acceptable. "I will accept the punishment handed down by the FA today. My focus now turns to preparing the team for this weekend's game against Fulham and finishing the season as strongly as possible." The stadium ban means Pardew will give his pre-match team-talk at the Magpies' London hotel this weekend, then hand over the minute-by-minute decisions to his No.2, John Carver. He will not be allowed any contact with his coaching team during the game, but will hold a post-match debrief when the players fly home. Pardew's sentence has been criticised as lenient by some, but the Independent Regulatory Commission took into consideration his very early apology - which was made to television cameras within a couple of minutes of Newcastle's 4-1 win over Hull on March 1. The fact that Meyler was undamaged by Pardew's headbutt, which lacked power and intent to badly injure, may also have counted in his favour. Pardew will continue to take his pre-match press conferences but won't take post-match questions. There is relief at the club that the FA ban did not extend into next season, and will be seen out during a period where Newcastle are not threatened by relegation, or are contesting the FA Cup. Stadium bans for managers are rare with the longest - of five games - served by then Blackpool boss Paul Ince earlier this season for threatening to knock out a fourth official Mark Pottage during a match against Bournemouth. wat

Ryan_Taylor
No chance him 'starting games in the stand' or 'staying seated in the dugout' will last. And I'd be annoyed if it did.
toontownman
Harsher punishment on us than him tbh. A longer stadium ban as is just means Carver causing the damage on the touchline TFC style (harsh he wasn't that bad there). Might have actually been made to hire an interim manager if not. (yeah with Ashley maybe that wouldn't have happened anyway)

merlin
If Pardew had been banned for 70 games it wouldn't have been long enough...just face facts, whilst Ashley is here, this clown is going to be showing his hypocritical cheesy grin round SJP for all that time. Give credit to the FA for a rare sensible outcome and it turns out not to be them making it. Awesome. Look forward to the retrial sheduled for 2018. Ste
Really don't think it makes a difference either way if he's in the dugout or not. It's not as though he's an inspirational force or has his own particular style which he likes to remind the players of on matchday. It'll just be plod along as we have been and pick up points where we can. They could have gave him a 70 game ban and I wouldn't be bothered, we're not aspiring for anything. Pardew got his big-man moment in. Well done. We'll see you back at the Emirates and this mediocrity you've drilled into the club can continue. Paully
The Secret Footballer isn't a fan of him! It must be Dave Kitson who he managed at Reading?! http://www.teamtalk.com/newcastle-united/9208475/- Pardew a ticking bomb I don't know what was going through Alan Pardew's mind when he squared up to Hull City's David Meyler and head-butted him. It's bad enough seeing players squaring up to one another, with their heads pushing against each other. My friend had the best solution. He'd twist the nipple of his opposite number and make him look ridiculous. I don't care who you are, a nicely timed nipple pinch is capable of bringing Mike Tyson to his knees. I know it sounds pathetic but, actually, it immediately shows up angry footballers for what many of them are when the gloves come off. All talk and no substance. Regardless of how soft the head-butt might have been, what Pardew did was a disgrace and the FA has handed down a stiff punishment - a three-match stadium ban, then a four-match touchline ban, plus a £60,000 fine. Pardew's biggest problem, as I've written before, is that he has a massive ego and doesn't take kindly when he feels he has been shown up - as when a player bundles him out of the way to retrieve a ball. His ego won't allow him to be portrayed as a pushover and, in some cases, that outlook probably serves him well. Yet in the wrong situation, it's a bomb waiting to go off. Newcastle acted quickly following the incident, fining Pardew £100,000, but quite a few people, including Alan Shearer, were surprised the 52-year-old even held on to his job. It has been alleged in the past that Pardew and Ashley have a financial arrangement away from football that involves substantial monies owed by the former to the latter, claims strenuously denied by Pardew, but it has again been suggested to me several times over the past week that the relationship between the pair is linked to more than on-field success. It would certainly explain why, even when Newcastle are performing woefully on the pitch, there is never anything to be read about a potential successor to Pardew. Make of it all, amid the claim and counter-claim, what you will... http://www.teamtalk.com/news/2483/91...dgy-deals-rife As for the manager, Alan Pardew, he seems to take the praise with ease when Newcastle win and finds a lot of excuses that point blame as far away from himself as possible during the tougher times. Chris Hughton's sacking at Newcastle came as a surprise to many but I was told that Pardew had been working on Ashley for months by hanging around the Ritz casino and gambling with him until they'd formed some sort of friendship. Suddenly, he's the Newcastle manager. He is an interesting character but not my favourite person.

Slim
Nice to see him getting some credit "Finally, a lot has been said about our manager in the last week, but Alan Pardew came across as being a credit to our football club. From the moment we arrived he made us feel very welcome, taking the time to come and talk to us during training and even sending someone to get us Newcastle training coats because he said we would be too cold! But most importantly he definitely has the respect of the players, speaking to each individually during the practice match about their role at the weekend, and listening to the tactics he shouted to the players convinced me that he certainly does know what he’s doing! I really enjoyed my morning at the training ground and left feeling happy that whilst the media may talk of a crisis at Newcastle, there is no problem with what matters- the team.
