Not seen enough of you under Amorim. But you seem to struggle to get any sort of control or momentum for large spells when I do watch you. Just glimpses of what it could be. Mixed in with some horrendous defending. 

 

If we're wanting to talk seriously this is it in a nutshell. We can be very dangerous, but it's never for sustained periods and there's always a mistake from someone or a terrible performance. It was Yoro against Southampton. It was Onana today.

Would be hard to disagree with to be honest. It feels like Amorim still has no clue what his best eleven is. 

 

Yoro was moved to LCB today. De Ligt moved to RCB. Dalot kept on the left despite us knowing Mitoma's pace would be an issue.

 

Will probably start Hojlund next game, as he can't decide between him and Zirkzee. 

 

Ugarte is nailed on and important but Mainoo was fortunate to start IMO. But we end up going behind and then they both need to be sacrificed as they're too defensive. Feels like Fernandes dropping deep into midfield beside Ugarte was the shout today but it's all hindsight.

 

In essence, Amorim has his idea, but not the slightest idea on who should play where. He has said this week they've still only had 7 training sessions and that the rest of the season will be a rollercoaster, but just how much can he do in a preseason?

To get them to a good level he probably needs at least 4 players, two full backs, a CM and a striker

 

If he gets those I can see him doing well. To then challenge for the title he'll need a few more signings

I wonder how much of it factored in Ashworth leaving? If you have a manager wedded to a very specific formation that not many teams use and needs specific players brought in to make it work, it doesn't sound like it aligns much with having a DoF who will be looking to keep continuity regardless of the manager.

 

Even if he's ultimately successful it has that feeling about it where you'd need to overhaul again with a new manager once he's gone.

Mostly when i've watched them with an analytical eye under Anorim, they always seem to just lack control. Poor and rushed in possession. Only really dangerous on the counter or from a moment from Fernandes or Amad. Everything looks chaotic and frenetic, like he's guessing where to put which pieces on the chess board. Often find myself wondering how spectacularly it can go wrong on a given day, can't imagine being emotionally invested in them.

Not much between them tbh, but are extremely different players in what they offer, so it feels weird that the manager doesn't really know which one he prefers. It should be obvious depending on what he wants from a striker.

 

The thing is Man Utd are a graveyard for even top talent, have been for ages now, so the likes of those two don't really stand a chance particularly with the expectations of the level required. At another lesser club I'm sure they'd both be doing OK.

He has a very specific way of playing, and the players he's got are either not suited to it, or haven't bought in at all. I. don't think that means he's a bad manager, Howe and Iraola also struggled early on to impose their systems on players who weren't used to it. Man U fans and their owner will need a lot of faith and perseverence if they really believe in Amorin.
