Not going to happen is it? Hardly a shock either. Can't see us having the foresight to target someone else. So it looks like we will finish the transfer window in a worse state that we started. At least Ashley got an extra £20m.

Wouldn't speak to us unless we'd agreed a fee anyway, which we haven't.

This isn't Football Manager, those things happen without grand official announcements.

Only if your crafty and tap players up, which is supposed to be illegal?

I just don't believe we'd approach the player, who as recently as this morning was saying he'd not heard anything about it.

P.S. I don't play football manager.

If this is true, we planned to replace Cabaye with a player we didn't even bother to check if he was interested?

Not only that, but Pardew has gone public about what a great addition he would be to our squad. Was he just taking the piss?

Grenier said directly "no" to Newcastle

Published Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 15:00 In: Lyon, Mercato.

As the English club had suggested, Newcastle returned to the charge for Clement Grenier. An enhanced proposal that could approach 14 ME in the English press. But Olympique Lyonnais will be no a priori not even have time to respond, as the midfielder took the lead. After a few statements, including recent ones, who could maintain blur, Clement Grenier has directly informed the two clubs, as Lyon Newcastle, he did not intend to leave Lyon this winter, its purpose being to finish the season and go why not look for a place in the Blues for the 2014 World Cup. According to RMC, the middle ground would have rejected Lyon in June and so at the end of the season all discussions about his future in a clear position which should put an end to rumors about her current last few days.

I suspect that his agent has advised him that bigger, CL-type clubs may be interested and he should wait till the summer.

Aubemayang scenario again. Players that can really improve us are likely to be in demand elsewhere.

Whats our rep like in France? Still good?

Depends on how many people are influenced by Montpellier.

You've gotta look at the Cabaye situation and assume that some players would see us as a stepping stone to bigger things.

We took on a quality player, gave him a decent platform and he earned a move to a bigger club - there must be an appeal for the players at least, if not the clubs.

Having said that, you've also got to assume that French clubs will be tiring of our low offers...

Ouch. Got to hurt when your bidding for a player and before you can even reach an agreement the player steps in and says "hold on, don't bother I don't want to join you"

:anguish: Still reeks of not really wanting to sign him. Or if we did, they then quite literally didn't even make contact until after Cabaye was sold.
