I think Man City fans have discovered that actually all this money isn't that interesting for more than a year or two

All success does (I imagine) is increase your expectations. Most of the baggage it brings is quite frankly embarrassing and certainly not something you would ever want to trade your club's identity for.

I doubt a Man City fan truly feels any more enjoyment than a Rotherham fan, or a Forrest fan, or whoever.

 what. They haven't traded their identity though. They are still man city. You reckon when that Aguero goal went in that wasn't the single greatest moment of them supporting their team? Well what's the point we may as well turn it in if success brings "embarrassing baggage".

I think you've completely missed what I'm saying here like, which is a canny effort considering the post was 3 lines long

I'm not saying Man City have traded their identity, I'm saying that I wouldn't want us to trade our identity for what they have, as ultimately enjoyment of the sport is all relative.

And are you trying to say success doesn't bring "embarrassing baggage"? Glory hunters, the "global brand", the fucking Poznan etc. I'm not saying this ought-weighs the enjoyment of winning trophies, just that it's another thing to consider.

I'd pretty much take anything other than the shit we're being served up at the moment mind, it's just boring on every level.

On that note, witnessing Newcastle win the league would be the greatest moment in my life, but if I didn't die from alcohol poisoning, I could probably live with going a while until the next trophy just to avoid glory hunters and the apathy towards winning trophies (Oh, nice, another trophy as expected. Yay.) my Man Utd supporting mates have. Is that a weird thought?

It's weird to think that, after a couple of years supporting a very successful Newcastle, a lot of us could become complete and utter bellends

It'd be a great opportunity to become an Everton fan.

Why in the name of god would you pick Everton of all teams?

Fuck off Flip. It's great fun being quite good and sort of near success.

Not sure about that, I bet a hell of a lot of them would vote for that play-off final against Gillingham.

Apologies to nitpick at the question but if redbull did buy newcastle, then there would be no "us" as they would rebrand absolutely everything about the club, It would be probably called red bull magpies playing at the red bull arena.  :anguish: :anguish:  As others have said I would rather support Newcastle United in the conference than get taken over and given a total rebrand. They have got 4 teams as far i know under their ownership

Finally, fans of previously austria salzburg started a new club and are in the third division of austrian football.

You're nitpicking on a hypotethical situation, with set outlines for the events that happen in this scenario? What the fuck man. We all know it would be even worse than the scenario put forward, but that's not the question here at all. The question is if you'd accept a renaming of the club for success, using Red Bull as the example in this hypotethical scenario. The scenario of the question would be the same no matter how you replaced the company/new owner at hand. Say a big sheik comes waddling in with tons of cash, but he won't spend it until we're the "Newcastle Magpies" because so many clubs have "United" in their name and he likes Magpies. It's the question that's important here, not the potential buyer.

I just do not like red bull at all so that was why i gave that response but to answer your question properly, disregarding the new owner completely, no i would not accept the renaming of the club for success.

Would be interesting to hear the reasoning from someone who voted they wouldn't mind though.

When seeing the question it's a no-brainer for me, rather support a mid-table side with tradition than a brand name.

But at the same time, during the Ashley era it feels like we've been re-branded in a way, it's certainly not the club I started supporting as a bairn. When the stadium name was changed, I was pissed off and disgusted, but it never occured to me that I should stop supporting Newcastle. Ashley, Pardew, Kinnear, Sports Direct Arena, Wonga, no ambition, I'm still here. Fucked for life, couldn't switch teams even if I tried. It's easy to say you just wouldn't care about a red & white Newcastle Red Bulls team, but if they won the Champions League I'd probably celebrate. In shame.

Where do you draw the line? Is Newcastle Red Bulls playing in black & white ok? Newcastle United in red & white? Black & white away tops? Absurd questions, but we've undeniably accepted a whole lot of shite already.

Pfft. Red Bull. I'd not give a fuck.

When they bursted into Salzburg they immediately re-wrote the club's history and claimed that the club formed in 2005. Had to be stopped by the Austrian FA.

I hate what we're becoming under Ashley and Sports Direct, in no way would another commercializing scenario make me feel any better. We need someone with a footballing interest and ambition that is regardless of any other interests.

There was an excellent article by a Man City fan a couple of years ago about how he didn't feel any attachment to his club or team, but more just admired the players.

The only answer for me is SBR's:

"What is a club in any case?

Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.

It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.

It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love."

Those Red Bull clubs with identical badges are so sickening. I'd boycott Red Bull if I drank that shit. Like most, I'd support us as Newcastle in black and white at any level over Red Bull Newcastle.

Also agree I'd rather back Gateshead than start a new club.

No idea what the actual question is tbh

If someone bought the club and broight with them money and ambition, but only at the cost of changing the club name to something else. (Newcastle Red Bulls, Newcastle Magpies, instead of Newcastle United) would you still support the club and be happy for the new money and ambition, or would you rater still the club be named NUFC but not fight at the top of the league.

The scenario is meant to be future you looking back at what you'd rather have wanted of the two scenarios.
