Jack Colback (now a free agent)

Good thing he was brought in as Gosling's replacement and not Cabaye's eh?

Sick of seeing this nonsense. In yesterday's side and for most of the season, he's been used in the role Anita played last year. The Cabaye replacement is clearly de jong and Cabella played in Cabaye's number ten position yesterday.

The nonsense is people like you who still bury their heads in the sand about this. He is the Cabaye replacement and the first name on the team sheet.

Interesting when he hasn't once played in the position Cabaye played in. When de jong was fit, he played there and Sissoko has played there when De Jong wasn't fit- which is the same situation as last year. Assuming a midfield three of tiote, colback and de jong, it's fairly clear to see that colback has replaced Anita and de jong has replaced Cabaye.

Cabaye played most of his game for us alongside Tiote fwiw.

Exactly. He rarely played as a number 10. He was always playing in front of our defence, making the occasional run forward.

Was only a few games prior to him being sold when he played in advance positions.

If it makes people feel better we can call him the Anita replacement

Swansea away 2011/12 season when they had shedloads of possession but we won 2-0, Cabaye was the furthest player forward for most of the game closing down and trying to win back possession.

Why does it make any difference who is whose replacement?

We're bottom of the league.

Eh?

Take your time.

I know we're rubbish, I just don't see what difference it makes who is supposed to replace who.

 Course you don't.

Well it's an entirely pointless question. What matters is whether the team is better or worse than before, and which players are good signings and which aren't.

Compared to Gosling Colback is good, compared to Cabaye he's shit. Which one you pick seems purely arbitrary.

Tactically, it's quite important.

Cabaye was our main creative force, we don't have him any more. We used money from his sale to buy a set of players who should be considered his 'replacements'. To improve our team, this/these player(s) have to be better than Cabaye, to stay the same they have to be of equal quality, and to regress, they can be whoever the fuck you can get. I reckon we've gone for the latter option, hoping that their collective efforts might match his.
