Pardew is all about team spirit, confidence, hard work. I knew it before but it all clicked when someone posted up those comments from Wham sound man or whatever. He doesn't have the ability to turn games/situations with footballing intellect. Get a small group of players, get the team spirit right, pace - power and hard work with the right mental state will give most teams a decent season - throw in some quality and you are laughing.

It's why he's such a "streaky" manager. When things are going well he won't over complicate things like Benitez might. Just keeps it going. But he's unable to dig himself out of a rut because in bad form morale is gone, spirit is lacking, you can't make the right runs, you feel tired - he has nothing clever in his management to unlock something. It's why he has 1 good season then a bad one, or 1 good half then 1 terrible half.

The fact that the players probably realise he's not going anywhere any time soon has meant they've had to dig deep and improve. So have results.

Probably about right.

If we can return to mediocrity it might at least make the weekends less unbearable, but the worst thing will be the nagging thought that if we slip back into the rutter of utter being twatted every week again we obviously have to be there for over a year before Ashley considers pulling the trigger.

You see with Martinez - when Everton perform badly consistently his way of improving is focusing on the system. Patterns, rhythms of play. Let's move, let's keep the ball. Let's dictate tempo. Le's focus on the way we play.

With Pards - it's all let's dig deep. Give it 100%. Run hard. Retain shape defensively and battle. Something will break offensively. If not throw on Marv/HBA/Ameobi etc. That's as cerebral as it gets.

Thats cos he has the mindset of an old school clogger.  If things aren't working out abandon football.

He's just a very limited manager with a very set way of playing football, which unfortunately requires a specific set of players. It all fell into place the season we finished 5th - we had enough big guys to hoof the ball up to, we had good full backs, midfielders making the right runs and we had a decent set piece taker.

When he doesn't have the requisit players to suit his style he struggles because he has no plan B and no flexibity to change the system to suit the players he does have.  That's why he's completely the wrong manager for Newcastle United - Under Ashley/Carr/Charnley he is handed players to work with and rather than looking at what he has and building a system to suit them, he just shoe-horns them into his very rigid system.

When the manager doesn't have any control over the players coming into the club, he needs to be as adaptable as possible because there's a very good chance he won't have his midfield maestro or his big physical forward or even his vocal captain.

The only way to make it work better is to give Pardew more say on transfer targets so he can mould the team to his style of play (God forbid) or replace him with someone who is more tactically astute and a lot more flexible.

I'm not expecting our tactics to improve, or Pardew to suddenly pick the players I want, but I wouldn't be surprised if we picked up another couple of decent results.

We play Man City and Liverpool next, plenty of chance to lose confidence ahead of winnable and important games against the likes of WBA and QPR.

The thinking about being most in danger of conceding when you have the ball is no doubt behind the direct approach.

If you lose the ball in midfield you are more vulnerable to the opposition's attack. Decent managers reduce the risk by working on passing, midfield movement and ball retention but Pardew's take on risk aversion is to bypass the midfield entirely and just hoof the ball straight up to the strikers ie. as far away from our box as possible, as quickly as possible.

There's some twisted logic in it but it's very simplistic, shit to watch and renders our talented midfielders completely redundant most of the time - they're literally there to act as a shield rather than a sword.  It's also very easy to play against.

Agreed but I don't think it's really a tactic. When things are going well or when the mood takes him we'll pass it around the defence and midfield aimlessly forever. When the nerves get shot he'll encourage safety first.

Point being: With Big Sam the long ball was part of the strategy With Pardew the clueless - it's just a result of his approach.

May yet see the back of him. (Trying to be very optimistic ala  O nut.)

Via him being 'head hunted' for another job? Maybe a London/southern club will see him as a stabilsing option and an 'experienced' pair of hands...

Complete straw clutching and desperation I know, but maybe an ironical way of finally seeing the back of the twat.

The utter shit being spouted by most media pundits is staggering. Ian Wright on BBC 5 yestreday was borderline spoof...'great coach' apparently.

Keep on bigging him up and maybe some other daft owner will see him as an option....Please god, pleaae.

Yeah he started with the 'He's one of my closest friends' stuff.

Just hoping that the continuous drivel may attract someone. Otherwise I fear he may be here for the very long haul. With all that will entail.

Mind you as to why he would then chose to leave I can't answer. Unless it was for a club he genuinely has an empathy with.

We only have to listen to his propeganda sound bytes and persevere with his abortive anti-football once a week, how the ruddy fuck do these people come out an support him/big him up when they have/had to deal with that day in, day out for x number of years? Seriously, should be locked up with the criminally insane, borderline psychotic.

Will he be in the press fawning over Obertan this week, or has he found a couple of new players whose performance on a particular afternoon he can take credit for?

An absolute hoot that he had to drag him off at half time. Proof if ever it were needed that he just makes it all up on the hoof and claims whatever goes right was his own personal masterstroke.

"Credit where it's due" - it's fucking easy this Premier League manager lark like. Put proven shit in the starting line up, then take them off and lap up the bizarre credit for the improvement.

Before the last cup game, he was going on how Sammy has to take his chance/ running out of chances etc.

Yet after the Spurs game he's going on how Sammy has never had a run in the team or done anything to earn one.

What goes through this retards brain?
