Guest Howaythetoon
Lee Charnley "“In my experience, has a player turned round and said I’m not signing for Newcastle United because of your training facilities? No. Did it stop us getting promoted out of the Championship, did it stop us finishing tenth, did it stop us having a good season this season? No.” Shit players are easier to attract, the likes of Elliott would sign just for the canteen facilities FFS. What a joke of a club man, no pride, no desire to better themselves, no shame, no nothing. Mind, to be fair, we had no problem attracting Charnley to run the club... Yorkie
The Chronicle's account of the situation suggests that we've got a summer budget of £55m. £7m less than the £62m () we allegedly spent on a bunch of freebies and loans this summer just passed. frankpingel
Well if this is considered a good season by those in charge I'm glad I gave up my season ticket and have no urge to return.
Guest Hog
Every time I read someone from the club saying we have this budget or that budget I assume that means to cover the wages too, not solely to buy new players.

Mattoon
Every time I read someone from the club saying we have this budget or that budget I assume that means to cover the wages too, not solely to buy new players. This is it they take into account the entire wage for the duration of said players contract when working out the fee for a player. What they don't mention is the previously claimed wages for players that are sold before their contracts are up. Just the same as saying we haven't got x amount for x player because it'll be paid in instalments but those further instalments are forgotten the next season. Black hole of cash. Yorkie
Not forgetting taxi fares from the airport, a career's supply of boots and laces as well as flea cream for Joselu's cat and there's no wonder it all adds up. It's a financial marvel that we're even still operating. Skint.
Nobody
Do the transfer budget for two seasons was far less than Fulham spent just this summer alone. Cool.
Yorkie
Do the transfer budget for two seasons was far less than Fulham spent just this summer alone. Cool. And Christ knows what Fulham's final spend was when you calculate it in Charnley terms. They probably spent more money than actually exists in the global economy. Gallowgate End
Just another comparison but Brighton have spent £122million since getting promoted with a net spend of £110million. And have only recouped £12million from sales in 2 seasons
Big Geordie
So, pretty much confirms what we all know - that money is disappearing out of NUFC and they are doing a good (legal) way of hiding it. Shiftless bastards.
Unbelievable
This season has not been a good season. That’s pissed me of no end. A good season? A fucking good season!? You’re having a laugh. So confirmation that fatty has indeed taken a massive 33m out of the club, we have no ambition and class just above the drop zone as “good” and have no interest whatsoever in upgrading the training facilities. Rafa would be mad to extend on those conditions. If it wasn’t for tv money having gone berserk since Ashley took over he would have seen us in administration a long time ago now. Utter shambles. Kanj
Our commercial income is fucking atrocious man. These clowns love to sign long term deals for pennies or no deals at all. Did he loan nufc the 33 million while we waited for the money due from the sales of a few players like Sissoko?? So now he has his money we should be due tv cash and players sales revenue? geordiedean
So blatantly obvious hes trousering money away left right and centre the snidey devious cunt and his cronies are all complicit in it. Wouldn't surprise me if they are getting hefty bonuses from it too The sooner this whole lot is investigated and the fat cunt loses everything the better
Anderson
As ever, these results being announced have absolutely no bearing on what should hypothetically be available this summer. They're effectively a year out of date by the time we get to see them.

Yorkie
https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/17584706.accounts-show-limit-of-uniteds-ambition/ Glad to read that but a bit frustrating that the point about transfer expenditure is being missed. Charnley says we've spent £111m since we came back up. That needs pulling apart and exposed as the nonsense it is, when no one else in the league factors-in certain costs like we do, just to make it sound like we've spent more. Transfermarkt has our expenditure on transfer fees at roughly £93/94m over the past two seasons, with incomings of around £57m. Therefore, going by the same rules as everyone else, rather than Charnomatics, it's a net spend of about £37m. Just bullshit coming out of the club at usual. Thankfully I can't see many falling for it.
Yorkie
Another point, why did we have to take out an overdraft for the Almiron signing if there was still £11m left in the kitty? Why wasn't that used in January too? Probably because, due to the way we divide funds intended for transfers, there was probably about £1-2m of that £11m actually available to contribute to the transfer fee itself. Probably because, due to the way we divide funds intended for transfers, there was probably about £1-2m of that £11m actually available to contribute to the transfer fee itself. Probably more to do with cashflow than anything. The kitty will be based on profits I assume but as the TV money (for example) is spread out through the year, the cash for a January transfer might not come in until later in the year. morpeth mag
If LC wants to include the total costs of a player purchase he needs to compare this to the total savings from player sales, transfer fee and saved future salary. Notwithstanding that it is difficult to make true year on year comparisons with the way they put provisions in the 2016/17 accounts I see that the wage bill has fallen considerably from £112m to £93m pa. In the clubs own words we have a very low wage to turnover ratio (52%) and enough spare cash to pay back MA £33m so there is no excuse for saying we don't have the financial clout to back Rafa going forward. Also note that LC's pay doubled from £150k to £300k between the two years.
