Newcastle 1-1 Stoke 8/2/15 - FT post-match reaction from p30

Cannot fathom why he took Cabella off. I don't think Cabella could either.

Relatively easy; we were under the cosh and he wanted a fast outlet so that their wing backs would be held further up the pitch. It's both a defensive and offensive substitution at once. Understood why Cabella and not sammy (wrong side unfortunately)

Sure everything that needs saying about Obertan's bottled shot has been said. Their goal was rooted in that fucking moronic free kick, why was Krul taking it when there were like 7 players level with him or behind and no one up? Just ended up coming straight back while we were out of shape and Krul wasn't settled back into position.

A bit of logic at last instead of the "boohoo he took Remy off" bulshize we have to hear....

Everything about that game was awful. Setting up with two defensive midfielders at home to Stoke with a mentality to grind it out. Stoke were awful as well and it was like watching how high they could jump for their dives at times.

Let's not forget the ref who gave every petty foul he could, breaking up play to such an extent that the game never flowed for more than ten seconds time. He also had a spell of giving Stoke yellows and then decided he'd laid down his mark and they could then kick lumps out of us for the rest of the game.

It's a game that summed up the Premier league perfectly. Two terrible teams happy to grind out a point and edge away from relegation, thus keeping the TV money flowing and the managers in jobs. All topped off with the usual abysmal refereeing display and some token awful goals to make it look like something happened. The premier league is like the fake knock off toy of Football now. On the surface everything looks right, but once you look a little deeper it drops to bits.

Apart from the subs argument which I don't agree with, the whole team played pretty miserably today and getting beat 40/60% possession to stoke tells you a lot about our bal retention skills.

For what it's worth:

Krul 6= Decent game apart from goal although not sure he could do much about it

Janmaat 6= Deefended and attacked well the whole game until the 89th minute... no more need be said

Colo 5= Unlucky not to clear goal off line. He gets progressively worse and is way off our expectations of him

Williamson 4 = Not sure what dummet has done to be kept out team. Tranits panic every time the ball is close to him

Haidara 6= great first half but faded badly in last 15 mins of second

Colback 5= The goal got him an extra point. Looked jaded today, would have had abeid on earlier for him

Anita 6= Positive in what he does but still too lightweight for this league

Sissoko 5 = low mark just because we know what he's capable of and how little he contributed today

Cabella 7= still hangs on to ball a little too long at times, impressed by his workrate, HE MUST HAVE BEEN KNACKERED LATER ON THO'

Sammy 6= Good first half and is a lot more tactically disciplined now. Faded badly at end of second

Perez 8= he's great, but would have got nine if it wasn't for his miss which in my eyes lost us the points

Cisse worked well when he came on, obertan did well apart from his panick in the oppostion area and abeid should have been on earlier

Carver 6= Correct use of subs to try and get a positive counter attacking set up and to keep their back line a bit further back. Defense still needs to sort itself out against physical opposition, easy goal for them tbh...

That was the moment we looked like a pub team.

Still fucking freezing and I've just been power walking the last 30 mins. Absolutely aids match - not single player from either team had what could be described as a good game. Should've won it 2-0 if it wasn't for moronic decisions by our attackers although the ref bottled Colbacks red as he did Ireland's earlier, he was gash n all. Just a total waste of everyone's afternoon.

Absolutely atrocious game, finishing and tactics (on-pitch and subs). Showed them far too much respect, we were almost resistant to breaking forward when we got the chance to. Carver was shown up, like, utterly clueless. Played right into their hands with endless lumping up of the ball, especially from goal kicks, no attempt to try and build from the back or even open them up a bit with short options etc. Our passing was incredibly impatient, at times, and shape non-existant. As we all know, we need a coach; that was just direction-less rubbish, I felt as if the players had no clue how to break Stoke down, we just let them have the ball.

Ayoze is really struggling up top for (home games, in particular), we need to be dropping him back a bit and get Cisse up there. Cabella should've stayed on ahead of Sammy too, he'd shown great flashes and some simple tactics could've helped get the game in his favour and him back on the ball in the right positions.
