Canny article on kit sponsors from when the PL first started, the deals today are crazy compared to back then and gives a glimpse into the kind of deals we could make going forward: https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Ftheathletic.com%2F3469683%2F2022%2F08%2F03%2Fbeer-photocopiers-and-more-photocopiers-the-premier-leagues-first-sponsors%2F%3Fsource%3Duser_shared_article

Cool article.

I had no idea alcohol wasn’t actually banned as sponsors? Just there’s a moral code about it?! But aye, gambling sponsors are fine! [emoji38]

I feel like the simplist solution would be Castore literally and quickly putting together 30-40 match quality black shirts with the sponsors, badges and numbers and having the lads wear that plain black shirt with the current home shorts and socks or have our guys wear white socks if Brighton have blue socks etc.

We literally have black training kit they could have used too. Castore are a bit of a shitshow aren't they? ?

I’d like to see betting companies banned from sponsoring tops myself personally.

Same.

I genuinely like alcohol sponsors mind. Carlsberg was a classic for Liverpool.

Good read that. Apart from the numbers it's interesting to be reminded of who was, actually, in the league when it started. Prompted me to look for this...https://www.footballkitarchive.com/newcastle-united-kits/#1980s

1974 Umbro tops  :smitten: Not that I've had had a toon top

I didn’t even know Middlesbrough were in the first ever PL season, or I totally forgot. Some classic kits from that season and indeed early era!

There was no bigger classic than the Newcastle brown ale or the breweries blue star

Not sure it’s anything to do with cash the top is gonna be out as a warm up top anyway

They've released the kit version as well.

Sold out in every size other than small already.

Edit:or is this just the warmup version exactly the same? Either way doubt a warm-up top would sell out for £55 if we weren't wearing it for a game.

Don't think the warmup top has Fun88 on? Could be wrong.

Most likely am wrong.

Inevitable that the match version was going to be on sale. I'd be astonished if that wasn't the key motivator all along; it's hardly that severe a clash to wear the Saudi kit, our even our home kit to be quite honest. The teams were barely distinguishable from one another in the 5-1 derby game back in (:mick:) 2010.

That looks like Fun88 has been photoshopped onto the matchday top on the website pics, as it looks different to the logo on the other tops.

It wasn't going to be on the top originally, but now its being worn for a match with the sponsor they'll probably have to add it to future orders.
