England need to play someone that can receive the ball and play passes into the front four from central midfield. That Henderson and Dier combo is not good for that at all. Say what you want about Shelvey but he is probably the best option, otherwise Barkley is played in there.

 

England has a lot of ability and options in those front four positions. The issue is going to be getting them the ball consistently. Don't like the Dier and Henderson pairing in regards to that. Hodgson is going to screw things up this summer man. Team has so much potential. Would be a damned shame.

Out of interest why is he not pairing Kane and Vardy and testing that out? Sure Kane has shown he can play off the front man too in more of a centre forward/second striker role if he wants to keep more of a 4-2-3-1 shape. Both KAne and Vardy do a great job pressing and so defensively it should still be effective.

He's not a world beater but I'm sure he still gets judged on that season he had at Man Utd where he was absolutely awful. He's always performed well for England and at the World Cup he was probably the stand out player in a shit side.

Because he obviously doesn't see England as setting up with 2 strikers at the Euros, and it makes fuck all sense to play Kane as anything other than the number 9.

 

I think Hodgson is naturally too cautious, but he's decent tactically and tries different things to get the most out of the players we have.

This. Not preparing for EC by playing Vardy and Kane up front for England is symptomatic of everything that is wrong with English football. Rooney should go to the Euros but should only be on the bench. You have two shit hot players in Vardy and Kane who should be given the chance to form an understanding together from now. Those two could score enough goals to win the tournament tbh the form they're in.

Very disappointing indeed - they had an interview with Woy the other week on Talksport and he basically said no international manager picks players based on current form, it's all down to which players that manager feels comfortable with and has faith in. Personally I think it's a load of bollocks and it made the point when (as much as I hate Adrian Durham) they then asked the question if it was a coincidence that the only times England has done well was when the form players have been taken and played due to injuries on the usual players. Takes the piss really.

The very fact that Hodgson said he will give Wilshere to the last minute to take him to the Euros and also mentioned Rashford as a possibility sums up everything thats wrong with England.
