Kilcline
13 minutes ago, Belfast Boy said: He has said Steele will be the "training keeper" for the world cup. What does that mean? You can take another keeper (or I suppose any player you wanted really) and not have him officially as part of the squad. Tom Heaton went to the last Euros to fill in during training but the squad keepers were Pickford, Ramsdale, Henderson

Sir Joel Inton
Harvey Barnes excluded and yet Mainoo and Foden who have been utterly useless all season and barely on the pitch are both in. Another reason top players choose the Sly 6 over us in a heartbeat, they get rewarded with international football for underachieving. That’s before you even comment on the likes of Henderson being there.
The College Dropout
Squad looks like he’s saying ‘these are all the contenders’. Although he’s injured I’m not certain Jude goes either. But I think with Foden being bad for so long, Palmer better off the right. He’s probably safe.

Have to imagine we had a few more instances like this in that 95-97 period.
ToonAbroad
On Hall - "He had a very good season individually also in the Champions League campaign, except maybe for the second half in Barcelona but the first leg against Barcelona was excellent. " Cheeky bastard. *edit* In fact, kinda funny that they purposely edited this out of the YouTube versions of it, but left it in the written quotes. 5:40ish Edited March 20 by ToonAbroad
KaKa
Harvey Barnes was never getting an England call up. Doubt he was even considered.
Kilcline
Tuchel has been saying for months that Henderson is basically a cert for the WC for his character and leadership as much as ability. Burn is in the same boat albeit with a stronger case for being there on merit. Henderson being in the squad isn't (or shouldn't be to anyone paying attention) a surprise at all, if he can put one foot in front of the other he's going to the World Cup. ToonAbroad
So apparently these players will only join up on Friday/Saturday. Nice to see Burn and Gordon getting a bit of a rest - "Henderson, Burn, Guehi, Konsa, O’Reilly, Anderson, Saka, Kane, Rogers, Rice and Gordon." And once they arrive, they will release some of the others.

1881
I feel sorry for Jacob Ramsey who has proved himself as an adaptable midfielder and is in better form than some of those included. Begin to wonder how many matches Tuchel is making his decision on, perhaps if Ramsey had not been incorrectly sent off against Man U he would have had more chance to prove himself. Lush Vlad
Ramsdale I know he’s picked 5 keepers and one of them is Jason Steele. But even so. That just highlights the lack of depth we have in that position.

I already bopped some guy on Reddit who complained about Tuchel not making his mind up and picking a different squad every time - despite about 25 of the squad always being there if they’re fit. It’s always the same - a bunch of people complain that he’s picking the same names and a bunch of people complain that he keeps chopping and changing. For the same squad. Europe and the Chelsea match aside, you lot have been banging on about how much you’ve been underperforming recently. I’ve not watched any Man U all season really so I haven’t got a clue but I’m told Maguire and Mainoo have been good? Chelsea have got one player in. I think he’s done a great job. I wouldn’t have Maguire in myself, but I probably wouldn’t have Dan Burn in either - I think they both get found out at the very top level. Tuchel has absolutely done enough to deserve trust, surely? You’ve got four relatively young players in. Argue about Barnes all you like, but be reasonable.

England managers have never consistently done this. There is many years worth of evidence that players from the Sly 6 tend to get picked regardless. You’re also reaching to come on here and tell me how wrong I am, only to then concede you’ve not watched anything of Mainoo this season. Barnes deserves an England call up this season and there are multiple players on that list who are either not better than him, not as in form as him, or both. It also seems to be a theme that the out of form players that have been chosen, coincidentally play for one of the Sly 6. Other than Henderson but as others have said, his inclusion is entirely a leadership decision, whether that is right or wrong can be debated. You can also underperform as a team but also have players who have performed well individually. That’s an odd argument to make.
Chicken Dancer
Harvey Barnes is never an England player, like. He should have took the opportunity to go to the World Cup with Scotland, it really is once in a lifetime stuff. Apart from being a very good finisher/goalscorer, he doesn't offer much else and shouldn't be anywhere near the national team. I also would be pretty gutted if he left us as he has the good habit of being able to score a goal - important ones at that. Just my opinion, don't kill me. You said players chose the Sly 6 over you in a heartbeat because of the reward of international football. Five of your players just got picked for England, including at least two and possibly more who explicitly chose you over a Sly 6 club. It just sounded a bit silly. And I would argue that picking the best and most in-form English players is not simple at all, given that (a) they are often not the same thing (b) there are loads of options unequally spread across the pitch and (c) they are both subjective anyway. And then factor in that that may not be the best option anyway, looking at how well this team has come together over the last few games.
